


Harvard wrestlers earn 23rd consecutive regional championshipHARVARD – Wrestling and winning regional titles is a tradition at Harvard like none other. Saturday at the IHSA Class 1A Harvard Regional, that tradition continued as the Hornets won their 23rd consecutive regional title, advancing to the Oregon Dual Team Sectional on Feb. 23. Harvard also advanced 13 individuals, including six champions, to Saturday’s Byron Sectional. Tommy Larkin (119), Dan Alden-Hebron (67) finished fifth, advancing four of its six wrestlers to the sectional: Justin Gricar (119), regional champion Jeremy Gricar (125), Cody Henken (130) and Tyler Henken (135). Class 2A Belvidere Regional: Marengo’s Joey Moorhouse (152) won his championship match to advance to next weekend’s sectional along with six teammates. Jake Keifer (119), Torbin Hoffmeyer (135), Damon Cloe (140), Rick Goerke (160), Bobby Gaines (171) and Angel Botzoc (189) will join Moorhouse at Sterling. Class 3A Fremd Regional: Dundee-Crown will send five wrestlers to next week’s Barrington Sectional, including regional champion Miko Villanueva at 112 pounds. Connor Lewis (103), Edwin Mendosa (125), Frank Abitua (140) and Mike Rust (160) also advance. BOYS BASKETBALL CL Central 56, Woodstock North 29: At Woodstock, Matt Gleixner scored 14 points as the Tigers won the Fox Valley Conference Fox Division game. Joe Pijanowski added nine for Central (7-14, 4-4). Mike Learman had six points to lead the Thunder (0-19, 0-7). Johnsburg 56, Grayslake North 43: At Johnsburg, C.J. Fiedorowicz scored 19 points as the Skyhawks outscored the Knights, 20-5, in the fourth quarter for the come-from-behind FVC Fox win. Mike Dixon added 12 for Johnsburg (19-1, 7-1). McHenry 50, Wauconda 34: At Wauconda, Josh McNaughton scored 14 points as the Warriors won the non-conference game. Brian Madson added eight for McHenry (14-5). St. Charles North 61, Jacobs 53: At Batavia, the Golden Eagles (3-17) lost in non-conference play at Batavia’s Night of Hoops. GIRLS BASKETBALL Huntley 51, Marengo 37: At Marengo, Hillary Johnson scored 12 points to lead the Red Raiders to the non-conference win against the Indians.
