Koch won the Woodstock Regional at 171 pounds on Saturday with a 3-2 decision against Richmond-Burton’s Joe Dedick. The previous week at the Suburban Christian Conference Mega Duals at Montini, Koch beat Marmion’s Nico Jimenez, the third-ranked wrestler at 171 by IllinoisMatmen.com. Koch is ranked second.

Noteworthy

Regional recap: More than 100 wrestlers qualified for sectionals from the Fox Valley Conference and other local schools out of regional competitions. Harvard led all schools with 13 qualifiers out of its own regional. Crystal Lake Central and South will send nine wrestlers apiece to sectionals. Central led the area with seven regional individual championships. Thirty-four local wrestlers won regional titles.

Dual team state: With regional team championships, Harvard and Crystal Lake Central qualify for dual team sectionals. The Hornets will face Stillman Valley at Oregon, and the Tigers take on Washington at Geneseo. Both matches are at 6 p.m. Feb. 23. The winners will earn a trip to state Feb. 27 at U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington.

This week’s top meets

IHSA Sectionals, Saturday

The top three finishers at sectionals in Classes 1A and 2A and the top four in Class 3A qualify for state. Locally, Class 1A is at Byron, Class 2A is at Sterling and Class 3A is at Barrington.
