Bears’ Manning on hand to honor C-G championsCARY – Cary-Grove’s state championship football season is over, but the accolades continued Tuesday. At halftime of the Trojans’ boys basketball game, representatives from MaxPreps, a national prep sports site, and the Illinois National Guard had a brief presentation honoring the Trojans’ state championship football team. During the ceremony, Trojans coach Bruce Kay received the National Guard national ranking trophy from Illinois National Guard Sgt. Blake Miles. Bears cornerback and kick returner Danieal Manning also made the trip to Elroy Fitzgerald Gymnasium despite Tuesday’s inclement weather. “Keep working hard and keep going on,” Manning told the crowd. “Senior class, way to go out with a bang. You guys just keep fighting.” The Trojans’ football team, which finished its season a perfect 14-0, was ranked 68th out of more than 16,000 high school varsity football teams by MaxPreps. The California-based company, which tracks the results of high-school football games from around the country, uses a computer formula that ranks teams based on overall record, strength of schedule, and margin of victory, giving extra weight to playoff victories. |
