CL Central girls soccer coach Josef Schroeder honored

Crystal Lake Central girls soccer coach Josef Schroeder will be inducted into the Francis Marion University (S.C.) Athletic Hall of Fame on Feb. 20.

Schroeder, a former defender, played for FMU from 1994-97 and will be the newest former FMU athlete inducted. He is a chemistry teacher at Central and has coached the Tigers' girls soccer team for the past five seasons. He guided the Tigers to a 11-7-1 mark last year and won the program's first-ever Class 2A regional title. He was the Northwest Herald Girls Soccer Coach of the Year in 2007.

Schroeder finished his FMU career having set a school record for most matches played and started (76). He scored 15 goals and had eight assists as a defender. He was twice named the team's most valuable player. Schroeder played professionally in the United Soccer League's D-3 League.
