


Created: Saturday, February 20, 2010 10:33 p.m. CST Updated: Saturday, February 20, 2010 10:34 p.m. CST State wrestling update: PR's Vinton, 3 from CLC take titlesUpdates from Day 2 on Saturday at the IHSA Individual Wrestling State Tournament in Champaign: Prairie Ridge's David Vinton captured the Class 2A 215-pound title with a 7-2 decision against Pontiac's Kyle Rich. • • • Austin Marsden became the third Crystal Lake Central wrestler of the night to win a Class 2A state title by defeating Geneseo’s West Cathcart, 3-2, at 189 pounds. Marengo’s Joey Moorhouse lost in the final at 152 pounds to Montini’s Brandon McBride, 3-1 and Richmond-Burton sophomore Jack Dechow lost in the final at 160 pounds to Washington’s Dylan Reel, 3-2. • • • Crystal Lake Central’s Joey Kielbasa won a Class 2A state title at 145 pounds, defeating Montini’s Frank Baer, 8-4. Kielbasa’s teammate, Taylor Servant, lost in the final at 140 pounds to Montini’s Steve Robertson, 13-6. • • • Crystal Lake Central's Trevor Jauch beat Carbondale's Zane Richards, 5-1, to win the Class 2A championship at 125 pounds. In the 2A final at 103 pounds, Montini's KeVon Powell pinned Prairie Ridge's Brian Cullen in 3:31. • • • Crystal Lake South's Nick Fontanetta took third place at 103 pounds with a 6-0 victory against Barrington's Adrian Gonzalez. Fontanetta got to the consolation finals with a 5-2 victory against Grant's Cameron Kennedy. • • • Harvard's Dan Stott (160 pounds) finished third at state with a 6-0 decision against Kankakee MacNamara's Colby Dolliger. Stott was in control of the match and got Dolliger on his back for two points.Stott also had two takedowns. Marian Central's Jared Koch lost his third-place match against Champaign Central's Brandon Ward in an 8-0 major decision to finish fourth at 171. Crystal Lake Central's Gage Harrah lost a 3-2 decision to East Peoria's Nate Joseph to finish fourth. Harrah regained a neutral position with an escape with 1:15 to go in the third, but could not get the takedown needed for a win. • • • In the semifinals at the IHSA State Finals, eight area wrestlers advanced to the championship matches. Wrestling for state titles will be Trevor Jauch (125), Taylor Servant (140), Joey Kielbasa (145) and Austin Marsden (189) from Crystal Lake Central; Brian Cullen (103) and David Vinton (215) from Prairie Ridge; Joey Moorhouse (152) from Marengo and Jack Dechow (160) from Richmond-Burton. Vinton upset East Peoria’s Nate Joseph with a takedown to win the match, 12-10 with five seconds left in the first overtime period. Vinton was up, 6-4, going into the third, but could not hold the lead, getting taken down twice in the period. Vinton was nearly out of bounds in getting the winning takedown in the overtime period but was able to keep his feet inside the mat. Dechow gave up three escapes but stayed in control of the match in beating Derek Nagel of Lemont, 7-3. Dechow will face top-seeded Dylan Reel from Washington in the title match. Gage Harrah lost his chance for a state championship with a, 9-8 loss to Pontiac’s Kyle Rich. Harrah injured his shoulder at the end of the second period after getting taken down by Rich but continued to the third up, 7-6. Rich escaped from the down position to start the third and then took Harrah down to take the lead. Harrah nearly had a takedown after giving up the escape and had a leg up on Rich, but could not control him before going out of bounds. Dundee-Crown's Miko Villanueva (112) lost to Nicholas Drendel from Marmion, 10-4 in the semifinals and then came back to decision Harlem's Derek Elmore in, 3-2 in the consolation semifinals. Elmore was the No. 1 seed who Villanueva lost to in the Barrington Sectional championship match. Three area wrestlers will compete in third place matches and Villanueva has won a third-place medal with a walkover at 112 pounds. Villanueva defeated Harlem’s Derek Elmore, 3-2, in the consolation semifinals. It was a rematch of the Barrington Sectional Final where VIllanueva lost to Elmore, 10-5. Villanueva was awarded third place with a prior decision against Joliet Township’s A.J. Juarez. In Class 2A, Marian Central’s Jared Koch was nearly pinned in his consolation semifinal against Rochelle’s C.J. Navarro. In the first period, Navarro had Koch locked down and looked to get the pin. Koch came back to pin Navarro in the second in 3:22 to advance. Koch will face Champaign Central’s Brandon Ward for third place. Also at 2A, Crystal Lake Central’s Gage Harrah pinned Montini’s Zech Tredenick in 1:58 and will wrestle East Peoria’s Nate Joseph for third place. In Class 1A, Harvard’s Dan Stott (160) pinned Shelbyville’s Jeff Gill in 5:10 to advance. Stott will face Kankakee Macnamara’s Colby Dolliger in the third place match.
