The Wolves’ left wing had a hat trick in Prairie Ridge’s 6-3 victory against Neuqua Valley in the first round of the AHAI Blackhawk Cup Red Division State Tournament. Taulien jump-started the Wolves’ offense by scoring their first two goals. The victory sends Prairie Ridge into the final 16 teams of the tournament. The Wolves face St. Charles North at 4:40 p.m. on March 13. Noteworthy Three still in: Three area teams still are alive in their respective state tournaments – Crystal Lake South, Prairie Ridge and Jacobs. South and Prairie Ridge won their first-round games in the AHAI Blackhawk Cup Red Division State Tournament, and Jacobs won its first-round game in the Blackhawk Cup White. South, which defeated Warren, 7-4, moves on to play York at 12:50 p.m. March 13 at The Edge in Bensenville. The final 16 teams in the Red tournament and the final eight in White advance to play at The Edge. Jacobs won its first-round game against Downers Grove South, 8-4, last week and will play St. Ignatius at 8:35 p.m. Thursday at The Edge in a White Division quarterfinal. Cary-Grove was eliminated from the White Division tournament, 2-0, by Niles Notre Dame on Monday. In the Blackhawk Combined state tournament, the CCM Tigers and Huntley were knocked out of their play-in games.
