Associated Press All-State Girls Basketball announced; Johnsburg's Hauck honored with IHSA All-State Academic recognition; Girls basketball sharpshooters qualify for state finals

Hampshire senior forward Chrissy Heine was recognized by the Associated Press as a member of the All-State Second Team, which was announced Tuesday.

Heine averaged 13.7 points per game and six rebounds and helped Hampshire to a Big Northern Conference East Division title, a Class 3A regional title and a berth in the 3A sectional final, where the Whip-Purs lost to Oswego. Hampshire finished 29-2 overall.

Johnsburg senior Jordan Hauck was selected to the IHSA Caterpillar All-State Academic Team, a prestigious award given annually to 26 students state-wide. Huntley's Alex Albanese was recognized last year.

Hauck was chosen from a group of more than 500 students. She and softball coach Wally Warner compiled a list of Hauck's accomplishments in last September and received word that Hauck had been recognized earlier this week.

Hauck has played softball and volleyball for three seasons and was a cheerleader for two. She won numerous awards in each sport while excelling in the classroom with a 4.438 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Hauck currently is ranked second in her Johnsburg class and will be the starting catcher for the Skyhawks this spring.

Hauck will have an official interview with the IHSA next week, Warner said, and will be honored at a dinner in Bloomington on April 19.

Richmond-Burton senior Kenny Riordan received honorable mention recognition.

Four girls basketball sharpshooters will take their skills to Redbird Arena this weekend in hopes of being crowned the Queen of the Hill.

Johnsburg's Megan Lopez, Hampshire's Jessie Van Dorin, Marengo's Amanda Hart and Prairie Ridge's Katrina Kinowski all qualified in Class 3A.

The preliminary round begins Thursday with finals on Saturday.
