Johnsburg’s Hauck earns state honor

Johnsburg senior Jordan Hauck was selected to the IHSA Caterpillar All-State Academic Team, a prestigious award given annually to 26 students statewide.

Huntley’s Alex Albanese was recognized last year.

Hauck was chosen from a group of more than 500 students. She and Johnsburg softball coach Wally Warner compiled a list of Hauck’s accomplishments in September and received word this week that she had been recognized.

“This is certainly something she deserves,” Warner said. “Every minute of every day she is doing something for someone else. I asked her if she ever has time for herself, and she said, ‘I have plenty of time for that.’

“She’s an unbelievable kid. It’s so wonderful that she was able to get this.”

Every IHSA school could nominate one female student and one male student by February. Nominees had to have at least a 3.5 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale after their seventh semester, have participated in at least two IHSA-sponsored activities during each of the past two years and demonstrated outstanding citizenship.

“I was shocked,” Hauck said. “I knew I had a chance, but of all the kids in the state, to get it was amazing.”

Hauck has played softball and volleyball for three seasons and was a cheerleader for two. She won numerous awards in each sport and has a 4.438 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Hauck is ranked second in her class and will be the starting catcher for the Skyhawks this spring.

She tutors students in her spare time, Warner said, and is a two-year National Honor Society member, a Fox Valley Leadership Conference representative, an Illinois State Scholar and a high-honor student during every quarter of high school. She scored 33 on her ACT exam.

Hauck is deciding between Loyola University and the University of Illinois. She plans to major in biochemistry or chemistry with the intent of going to medical school.

“I think my academics are what I’m most proud of,” Hauck said. “It’s great to have had athletic accomplishments – I’m proud of that – but my academics have always come first, and to do so well in that has been really [rewarding].”

Hauck will have an official interview with the IHSA next week, Warner said, and will be honored at a dinner April 19 in Bloomington.

Richmond-Burton senior Kenny Riordan received honorable mention for the award.
