Johnsburg earns OT soccer win

JOHNSBURG – Danielle Slivka scored in overtime Thursday to give Johnsburg’s girls soccer team a 2-1 victory against Grayslake Central in the Fox Valley Conference Fox Division opener for both teams.

Lauren Rodgers scored the other goal for Johnsburg (2-2 overall, 1-0 FVC Fox).

Prairie Ridge 4, Woodstock 0: At Woodstock, Maggie Olsen scored two second-half goals to lead the Wolves past the Blue Streaks in the FVC Fox opener for both teams. Kyli Humm made 12 saves for Prairie Ridge (3-1-1, 1-0), and Allison Wynn had eight for the Streaks (1-3, 0-1).

Grayslake North 2, Woodstock North 1: At Grayslake, the Thunder scored in the opening 10 minutes of their FVC Fox opener, but Woodstock North (0-3, 0-1) lost to the Knights (1-2, 1-0).

Huntley Invitational: At Burlington, Corinne Wron-ski scored four goals, including a hat trick in the first half, to the lead Huntley to a 6-0 win against Burlington Central in the opening round of the tournament. Taylor Henning-Fletter added a goal and two assists for Huntley (3-0).

South Elgin Invitational: Haylee Moscato made eight saves for Hampshire (0-3), which lost to South Elgin, 1-0, in the second game of the tournament.

Richmond-Burton 2, Grant 2: At Fox Lake, Sydney Wilkins had a goal and an assist as the Rockets tied Grant in a non-conference game. Maggie Koren scored R-B’s first goal.

BASEBALL

Winnebago 6, Marengo 4: At Winnebago, Jake Tucker (0-1) struck out six and held Winnebago to three earned runs in six innings, but the Indians (1-2) lost a Big Northern Conference crossover game. A.J. Lohff went 2 for 2 with a double and two runs for Marengo.

Durand 5, Alden-Hebron 1: At Hebron, the Giants (0-2) lost in non-conference play. Cody Eskridge (0-1) struck out seven in five innings and went 1 for 3 with an RBI.

SOFTBALL

Harvard 16, Hiawatha 0: At Harvard, Lindsay Melson (3-1) held the Hawks to one hit and struck out 11 to lead the Hornets (4-1) in a non-conference win. Melson, Ashleigh Fisher and Michaela Binz hit home runs for Harvard. Binz’s shot was a grand slam.

Johnsburg 10, Round Lake 0: At Johnsburg, Mary Chamberlain (1-0) threw five shutout innings for the Skyhawks (2-1) in non-conference action. Maddie Scharf went 3 for 3 with a double, a triple and two RBIs.

BOYS TENNIS

Hampshire 7, Woodstock North 0: At Hampshire, the Whip-Purs (1-4) swept their meet against the Thunder (0-1).

BADMINTON

Oswego East 8, McHenry 7: At Oswego, Mary Kate Freund won at No. 3 singles and Paige Elder and Peyton Freund won in No. 3 doubles for McHenry, but the Warriors lost to the Wolves in non-conference action.
