R-B walks away with 2 wins

ROCKFORD – Early in the season, hitters want to get to the plate and swing the bat instead of being patient.

During Saturday’s non-conference softball doubleheader against Rockford Lutheran, Richmond-Burton’s bats didn’t leave the players’ shoulders much, but the Rockets scored 34 runs on 14 hits, winning, 18-0 and 16-0. Each game went four innings.

The Rockets drew 16 walks in the first game and 10 in the second game.

“We were very patient at the plate, stole a lot of bases, and we were being smart on the basepaths,” R-B coach Melanie Hinz said. “It was good to see instead of getting into bad habits.”

Bree Roberts had two hits in each game for R-B (4-2).

Huntley 10-6, South Elgin 4-4: At South Elgin, Jenna Mychko had four hits and knocked in two runs in the first game of the Red Raiders’ non-conference doubleheader sweep of the Storm. Randi Peterson doubled and had two RBIs in the second game for Huntley (3-0).
