no-hits KnightsCRYSTAL LAKE – On a cold day, pitchers usually have the advantage over hitters.

Crystal Lake South’s Easton Kowalski proved that point Thursday, throwing a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts in leading the Gators to a 6-0 Fox Valley Conference crossover win against Grayslake North.

South coach Brian Bogda said Kowalski was masterful.

“He hit spots and worked fast,” Bogda said. “The kids played good defense behind him as well.”

Chris Hauser doubled and scored twice for South (3-4, 1-0 FVC Valley Division).

Dundee-Crown 6, Woodstock 5: At Carpentersville, Jake Romano homered as the Chargers scored in the bottom of the eighth inning to win their FVC crossover against the Blue Streaks (4-5, 0-2 FVC Fox).

Chris Sailor got the win and had three hits for D-C
(5-5, 2-0 FVC Valley).

Richmond-Burton 4, Stillman Valley 0: At Stillman Valley, Tyler Volling earned his first win of the season, throwing a three-hit complete game and striking out six.

On offense, Volling was 1 for 2 with a sacrifice fly. C.J. Daniels, Parker Johnston and John Tiso all added doubles for the Rockets (4-6).

Hononegah 11, Marengo 0 (5 inn.): At Rockton, Marengo
(1-8) was no-hit by Hononegah in a non-conference game.

SOFTBALL

Barrington 16, Woodstock North 0 (5 inn.): At Barrington, Kaitlin Chamberlain, Alyx Vogel and Bria Romine each had hits in the loss for the Thunder (3-7).

GIRLS SOCCER

Huntley 4, Hinsdale South 1:
At Huntley, Aimee Wronski scored three times as the Red Raiders won their 100th game in school history in the Pepsi Showdown.

Goalkeeper Kaytlyn Owens made one save for Huntley (11-0).

Jacobs 2, Lakes 1: At Lake Villa, Catie Sherman and Mo Ramirez each scored goals as the Golden Eagles won their match in the Pepsi Showdown.

Alyssa Barnard made four saves for Jacobs (2-5).

York 3, Cary-Grove 2: At Elmhurst, Korey Kronforst and Mary Schneider each scored as the Trojans lost in Pepsi Showdown play.

Paige Wooldridge made six saves for C-G (4-4).

Prairie Ridge 2, Grayslake Central 1: At Grayslake, Rachel Didier and Maggie Olsen scored second-half goals as the Wolves (5-1-1, 3-0) won the FVC Fox matchup.

Richmond-Burton 5, Genoa-Kingston 0: At Genoa, Katie Quarino scored and had an assist as the Rockets won the Big Northern Conference crossover.

Tiffany Springsteen added two assists for R-B (2-0-1).

Marengo 2, Stillman Valley 0: At Stillman Valley, Allison Reinhard and Alexa Torman each scored as the Indians won the BNC crossover.

Brittany Berrier made nine saves for Marengo (5-4).

Winnebago 2, Harvard 0: At Winnebago, Victoria Goad made four saves in the BNC crossover loss for the Hornets (3-1-1).

CL South 3, Maine South 1: At Park Ridge, the Gators (5-3) beat the Hawks in the Pepsi Showdown.

BOYS TENNIS

Jacobs 7, Dundee-Crown 0: At Algonquin, Colin Forbes won at No. 1 singles to lead Jacobs to an FVC win.
