


CL South stops PR in FVCCRYSTAL LAKE – Billy Wright went 4 for 4 with a double and triple Friday to lead Crystal Lake South to an 8-4 Fox Valley Conference crossover win, Prairie Ridge’s first conference loss. The Gators (7-6 overall, 5-2 FVC Valley Division) scored four runs in the fifth inning and two in the sixth to get the come-from-behind win. Mike Benson earned the win for South, giving up three earned runs in 52⁄3 innings. South coach Brian Bogda said Benson did a good job of going deep in the game and keeping the Gators close. With crossover games counting in the standings, the meeting of crosstown rivals was even more significant. “[Benson] did a nice job against a team that is pretty darn fast on the bases,” Bogda said. “PR is off to a good start, and every win means something this year.” Andrew Kovarik had a double and drove in a run for the Wolves (8-5, 4-1 FVC Fox). Cary-Grove 3, Woodstock 0: At Cary, Keven Weber (2-0) limited the Blue Streaks to two singles and struck out six to earn the FVC crossover win. The Trojans (7-7, 3-3 FVC Valley) were led on offense by Weber, who went 1 for 2 with a double, and Tyler Lau, who had two RBIs. Tony DiMaio struck out six and gave up one earned run in taking the loss for Woodstock (6-8, 1-4 FVC Fox). Jacobs 8, Grayslake Central 7: At Algonquin, Josh Kranz homered and drove in four runs for the Golden Eagles (5-6-1, 3-4 FVC Valley) in an FVC crossover win against the Rams (10-3, 4-1 FVC Fox). Marian Central 11, Carmel 8: At Woodstock, Dave Luczak went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, and Casey DiPietro went 2 for 3 with three RBIs in the Hurricanes’ non-conference win against the Corsairs. Dave Parr improved to 5-0 with a complete-game win for Marian (9-2). TENNIS CL South 7, Huntley 0: At Huntley, the Gators’ Cam Laktash did not lose a game in his No. 1 singles match against Huntley (4-5, 0-5). Also for South (8-0, 5-0), Scott Subak and Andy DeBoer won at No. 1 doubles.
