Vilardo rallies C-G past Blue Streaks

WOODSTOCK – Michael Vilardo went 4 for 4 with two home runs and three RBIs on Saturday to help Cary-Grove’s baseball team rally from an eight-run deficit after three innings for an 11-9 Fox Valley Conference crossover victory against Woodstock.

Grey Bozeman earned the win for the Trojans (8-7, 4-3 FVC Valley), allowing one run in 42⁄3 innings of relief. Also hitting home runs for C-G were Chris Waylock and Tyler Lau.

Shawn Hovlid went 2 for 3 with a homer and four RBIs for the Blue Streaks (6-9, 1-5 FVC Fox). Woodstock jumped to a 9-1 lead early in the game.

McHenry 8, Johnsburg 0: At Johnsburg, Pat Murphy struck out two and allowed three hits in McHenry’s FVC crossover win to improve his record to 5-0.

The Warriors (10-3, 6-2 FVC Valley) were led by Kevin Wollscheid, who went 2 for 2 with a home run and three RBIs. C.J. Hernandez went 1 for 2 with a double to lead the Skyhawks (4-9, 1-6 FVC Fox).

Grayslake Central 15, Jacobs 9: At Grayslake, the Golden Eagles (5-7-1, 3-5 FVC Valley) lost an FVC crossover game to the Rams (11-3, 5-1 FVC Fox).

Richmond-Burton 14-10, Oregon 2-4: At Richmond, Casey Williams (1-2) pitched a complete game and struck out seven to earn the win in the first game of Big Northern Conference crossover sweep for the Rockets. Jon Tiso went 3 for 4 with a triple and an RBI in the second game for the Rockets (7-9).

Marengo 10-4, Belvidere 0-9: At Marengo, Brad Seemann struck out eight and the Indians (2-13), led by Jake Wajda’s two RBIs, won the first game of a non-conference doubleheader. David Diedrick pitched seven innings and struck out three as the Indians lost the second game.

Huntley 15, CL Central 3: At Crystal Lake, Phil Pupillo went 2 for 3 with a grand slam for the Red Raiders (12-1, 6-0 FVC Fox) in an FVC crossover victory.

Crystal Lake Central (11-5, 4-4) is in third place in the Fox Division behind Prairie Ridge and Grayslake Central.

Dundee-Crown 8, Grayslake North 2: At Grayslake, Kirk Hanselmann went 2 for 4 with a double and five RBIs to power Dundee-Crown (9-7-1, 6-2 FVC Valley) to an FVC crossover win.

Kaneland 16, Hampshire 15: At Maple Park, Ryan Burke went 3 for 4 with a double, a home run and three RBIs to lead the Whip-Purs (5-7) in their non-conference loss.

Marian Central 9, Jefferson 0: At Woodstock, Shane Siwek (2-1) struck out five and walked none to earn the non-conference win for the Hurricanes (10-2). Eli McGuire led Marian’s offense, going 3 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs.

Luther North 18-13, Alden-Hebron 2-6: At Chicago, the Giants (0-9) dropped a pair of games in a Northeastern Athletic Conference doubleheader to Luther North and were led by Connor Schroeder, who went 2 for 5 in the two games with a double.

TRACK

Libertyville 6-Star Invitational: Michael Bondi won the 800 meters (2:01), and Brett Schuld won the 400 (52.3) to lead Crystal Lake Central at the six-team meet. No team scores were kept.

TENNIS

Round Lake 3, Huntley 2: At Round Lake, Brendan Bozic and Francis Ramirez won at No. 3 singles for the Red Raiders in a non-conference loss.

Marian Central 3, Chicago Christian 2: At Palos Heights, Riley Waters (No. 1) and Andrew Waters (No. 2) won their singles matches and led the Hurricanes to the Surburban Christian Conference win.

Lakes Quadrangular: At Lake Villa, Johnsburg’s Brayton Regner and Colin Goulet took second at No. 1 doubles with a record of 2-1, and the Skyhawks (10 points) finished second as a team. Grayslake North won the event with 11 points.

Naperville North Invitational: Crystal Lake South was led by Alex Zelasko and Brandon Jarva’s fourth-place finish at No. 3 doubles, and the Gators (12 points) finished in sixth place. Neuqua Valley (41) won the event.

Harlem Invitational: At Machensey Park, Cary-Grove’s Matt Butler took second at No. 2 singles and led the Trojans (21) to a fourth-place finish. Woodstock (13) took seventh and was led by Nick Butler’s fifth-place finish at No. 2 singles. Glenbrook North won the event with 43 points.
