


Whips go undefeated in soccer tourneyRICHMOND – Hampshire’s girls soccer team defeated Round Lake, 4-0, and Richmond-Burton, 2-0, on Saturday to win the Richmond-Burton Tournament championship with a 3-0 record. The Whip-Purs (8-5-0) were led in Saturday’s two games by Cassie Dumoulin, who scored two goals, and Natalie Starrenburg and Kelsey Anderson, who each added a goal and an assist. Haylee Moscato recorded three saves and earned the two shutout wins. Pepsi Showdown: At Schaumburg, persistence is paying off for Jacobs’ Kylie Dennison, who scored two goals for the Golden Eagles (5-5-1) in a 4-1 win against Stagg. Jacobs coach Anthony Capello said Dennison always finds a way to pester opponents’ goalies. “[Dennison] is a great player,” Capello said. “She works hard and manages to get a few shots on goal in every game. Tonight was definitely her night.” Margaret Rivera and Kelsey Quitschau each scored a goal, and Alyssa Barnard made six saves for the Golden Eagles. In other Pepsi Showdown action, Korey Kronforst scored two goals and assisted on the other, and Cary-Grove (6-6-0) defeated Andrew, 3-1. Also, Crystal Lake South played Homewood-Flossmoor to a 2-2 tie. Ashley Ross and Kali Loescher each scored goals, and South (7-4-1) finished the tournament with a 2-1-1 record. Harlem Tournament: At Machesney Park, Woodstock lost to Rockford Christian, 2-0, and Harlem, 2-1, and the Blue Streaks (5-6-0) finished 1-2 at the tournament. Allison Wyn made 15 saves in the two games. SOFTBALL Woodstock Tournament: Jonelle Drafkorn struck out seven and gave up four runs on three hits and earned the win in Woodstock’s 9-4 victory against Harvard (10-5). The Blue Streaks (4-7) were led by Abby Haubold, who went 3 for 4 with two doubles and a run scored. Harvard’s Lindsay Melson struck out 15. In other games involving local teams, Naperville North defeated Crystal Lake South, 9-5, Harvard defeated South, 8-6, Conant defeated Woodstock, 20-1, Naperville North defeated Woodstock, 11-1, South (5-7) lost to Conant, 13-3, and Lake Zurich defeated Harvard, 14-0. Conant won the six-team tournament. St. Edward round robin: At Elgin, Marengo defeated St. Edward, 13-1, Farmington, 7-3, and Chicago Christian, 11-3, and the Indians (15-3) went 3-0 in the tournament. Danielle Simons (10-2) went 2-0, including throwing a no-hitter against St. Edward, and struck out 12 over the two games. Kaleigh Velasquez went 6 for 10 with five doubles and six RBIs to lead Marengo’s offense. Fremd 15-10, Cary-Grove 0-3: At Cary, Emma Gaulke went 1 for 3 with a double and two RBIs, and Amy Fitzgerald went 1 for 3 with a run scored for the Trojans (10-5), who dropped both games of their non-conference doubleheader against the Vikings. South Elgin 14, Jacobs 6: At Algonquin, Kara Arceneaux went 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI for Jacobs (6-4) in a non-conference loss. Alden-Hebron 19-20, Christian Liberty 2-5: At Hebron, Hayli Lagerhausen went 4 for 5 over the two games with a home run and seven RBIs and won the first game of the doubleheader to lead the Giants in their Northeastern Athletic Conference sweep. Sparkle Laugerhausen won the second game for A-H (7-7, 2-2). TRACK Hinsdale Central Invitational: At Hinsdale, Crystal Lake South’s Marianne Collard took second in the 1,600 meters (5:18.26) and third in the 800 (2:21.23). South’s 4x800 relay team took third (10:28), and the Gators finished eighth. Wheaton-Warrenville South Invitational: At Wheaton, Taylor Humm won the discus with a throw of 111 feet, 31⁄2 inches and led Prairie Ridge (25 points) to seventh-place. Wheaton-Warrenville South won the meet with 168 points. Naperville North Invitational: Cary-Grove won the meet with 284 points Friday with Carly Loeffel winning the high jump and 400 meters. Lizzy Dyrek won the discus and took third in the shot put for the Trojans. Kelly McCoy took second in the 100 high hurdles and Jessica Warnecke was second in the 300 low hurdles. BADMINTON St. Charles East Quadrangular: Meghan Simon and Mary Kate Freund went 3-0 at No. 1 doubles and took first place to lead McHenry to a third-place finish.
