


Simons keeps Marengo softball rollingMARENGO – Marengo pitcher Danielle Simons improved to 11-2 on the season with a seven-inning, 12-strikeout performance in a 9-0 Big Northern Conference East Division win against Richmond-Burton on Tuesday. Simons went 2 for 2 at the plate with a triple, two runs scored and two RBIs as the Indians (17-3 overall, 3-0 BNC East) won their third consecutive conference game. Alysa Grude homered for Marengo, going 2 for 3 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Jessica Kerns took the loss for the Rockets (7-10, 0-2), giving up eight earned runs on 14 hits over six innings. Simons’ shutout came a day after teammate Mattie McGuire threw a no-hitter against Oregon in Marengo’s 7-0 BNC crossover victory. McGuire narrowly missed a perfect game, allowing one walk. She threw 70 of 97 pitches for strikes and had nine strikeouts. Harvard 7, Hampshire 1: At Hampshire, Lindsay Melson (12-5) struck out 10 and earned the win for the Hornets in BNC East action. Harvard (12-5, 2-1) was led by Carlie Gabrys’ triple and RBI and Stephanie Stephens (1 for 2, RBI). Huntley 15, Johnsburg 5: At Johnsburg, Kelsey Hagan had six RBIs, going 4 for 4 and hitting her third home run of the season in Huntley’s Fox Valley Conference crossover win. Taylor Larson earned her ninth win for the Red Raiders (11-4), giving up four earned runs on nine hits over five innings. Jordi Vorisek went 1 for 2 and hit a home run for the Skyhawks (6-11). Jacobs 13, Woodstock 1 (5 inn): At Woodstock, Kara Arceneaux scored three runs and hit a triple for the Golden Eagles (7-5) in an FVC crossover win against the Blue Streaks (4-9). Marissa Lombardo earned the win for Jacobs, giving up one run on six hits and striking out seven. Dundee-Crown 5, Woodstock North 4: At Woodstock, Amanda Eissler and Danna Jensen each went 2 for 3 with a double, and the Chargers (1-11) defeated the Thunder in FVC crossover action. North (6-11) was led by Alyx Vogel, who went 1 for 3 with an RBI. CL South 16, CL Central 10: At Crystal Lake, Vicki Pyan went 3 for 4 with five RBIs, and Tori Stevenson went 2 for 2 with a double and three RBIs in an FVC crossover victory for South (6-8). Amy Rink led Central (10-4), going 3 for 5 with a double and an RBI. Brittany York went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Alden-Hebron 5, Westminster Christian 4 (5-inn.): At Elgin, Meagan Tossone went 2 for 2 with two runs scored, and Candace Damato went 2 for 3 with an RBI in a Northeastern Athletic Conference win for the Giants (9-7, 4-2). Grayslake North 10, McHenry 5: At Grays-lake, Brenda Botzenhart went 1 for 2 with a home run in an FVC crossover loss for the Warriors (7-6, 3-3). SOCCER Grayslake North 1, Woodstock North 0 (2OT, PK): At Woodstock, the Thunder (0-8-0, 0-6) lost to the Knights (7-5-1, 4-3) in an FVC Fox contest. Shelby Nicholson and Marta Sobey scored shootout goals for Woodstock North. Prairie Ridge 8, Woodstock 0: At Crystal Lake, the Wolves (9-1-1, 7-0) scored all their goals in the first half in getting the FVC Fox win. Allison Wynn made 10 saves for the Blue Streaks (5-7, 2-4). Hampshire 3, Marengo 2: At Hampshire, Dakota Walther had the game-winning goal in the Whip-Purs’ BNC East win against the Indians (16-4, 2-1). Alex Field also scored in the second half, assisted by Karla Vietinghoff, and Haylee Moscato made four saves for Hampshire (9-5, 2-0). Jacobs 2, Harlem 0: At Algonquin, Cassidy Sherman scored two goals, both assisted by Margaret Rivera, in a non-conference win for the Golden Eagles (6-5, 1-2). Richmond-Burton 4, Harvard 0: At Richmond, Savannah Schinto, Sarah Springsteen, Maggie Koren and Abby Kargul each scored for Richmond-Burton (4-2-2, 2-1) in the Rockets’ BNC East win against the Hornets (2-7-1, 0-3).
