A-H earns first baseball win

HEBRON – The Alden-Hebron baseball team picked up its first win of the season with a 7-6 Northeastern Athletic Conference victory against Rockford Christian on Tuesday.

Mitch Hooper scored the winning run in the seventh, and Connor Schroeder pitched 31⁄3 innings, striking out seven and allowing no hits to earn the win for A-H (1-12 overall, 1-4 NAC).

“We’ve got a bunch of young kids this year and it was a very exciting win for us,” Giants coach Ken Winkelman said. “We’re learning as we go along, and this is a great group of kids that stay eager.”

Shane Engelbrecht went 3 for 3 with a triple and two runs, and Cody Eskridge went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs for the Giants.

Prairie Ridge 9, McHenry 1: At McHenry, Zack Coel (4-1) threw a no-hitter for the Wolves, striking out eight and walking two in a Fox Valley Conference crossover.

Kevin Kaczmarski went 3 for 3 with four runs, and Jon Williams went 2 for 4 with three RBIs for Prairie Ridge (13-6, 8-2 FVC Fox). Pat Murphy gave up five earned runs and nine hits in the loss for McHenry (14-4, 10-3 FVC Valley).

The loss ended McHenry’s nine-game winning streak.

Cary-Grove 12, Woodstock North 1 (5 inn.): At Cary, Keven Weber (4-0) struck out 10 for the Trojans (13-8, 9-4 FVC Valley) in an FVC crossover win.

Tyler Loesher took the loss for the Thunder (4-13, 0-12 FVC Fox).

Huntley 11, Woodstock 1 (6 inn.): At Huntley, Chris Klein and Phil Pupillo homered for the Red Raiders (16-4, 10-3 FVC Valley) in an FVC crossover win.

Tyler Weiss doubled for the Blue Streaks (4-13, 0-12 FVC Fox).

Jacobs 13, Grayslake North 3 (6 inn.): At Algonquin, Ben Albano drove in seven runs and hit two homers for the Golden Eagles (8-9, 5-7 FVC Valley) in an FVC crossover win.

Brett Kale and Nate Andersen also homered for Jacobs.

CL Central 9, Dundee-Crown 6: At Carpentersville, Connor Sadzek got the win for the Tigers (13-8, 5-6 FVC Fox) in FVC crossover action.

Jake Romano doubled twice for the Chargers (10-10-1, 7-5 FVC Valley).

Marian Central 11, Boylan 6: At Rockford, Dave Luczak (3-1) pitched seven innings, struck out seven and walked three in a non-conference win for the Hurricanes (13-5). Luczak also hit a home run and drove in four. Dave Parr scored three runs, and Scott Franzegrode (two RBIs, three runs) went 3 for 5 for Marian.

TENNIS

CL Central 5, Dundee-Crown 2: At Crystal Lake, Tommy Nelson, Tyler George and Jake Lenhard all won their singles matches for the Tigers (5-6, 5-4 FVC). Liam Blume and Kevin Brandstatter won the No. 1 doubles match for D-C.

Prairie Ridge 4, Johnsburg 3: At Johnsburg, Connor Greenwald (No. 1 singles) and Sam McNally (No. 2 singles) won their matches and helped the Wolves (8-2 overall, 8-0 FVC) remain undefeated in the FVC. Tom Rocko won his match at No. 3 singles, and Jack Schneider and Steve Crutchfield won at No. 4 doubles for the Skyhawks (10-2 overall, 6-2 FVC).

Grayslake Central 7, Woodstock North 0: At Woodstock, the Thunder (1-9, 0-7) were swept in an FVC loss to the Rams (11-5, 6-4).

CL South 4, Marengo 0: At Crystal Lake, Andy DeBoer and Scott Subak (No. 1 doubles) and Dan Arnold and Brad Wiegand (No. 2 doubles) won their matches as the Gators (13-0) swept the Indians in non-conference action.

Grayslake North 5, Woodstock 2: At Woodstock, Luis Ortiz and Cam Fabian won at No. 2 doubles for the Blue Streaks in an FVC loss.

Cary-Grove 6, Huntley 1: At Cary, Chris Federighi won at No. 1 singles for the Trojans (2-11, 1-7) who picked up their first FVC win.

Jose Valentinez and Pat Walsh won at No. 4 doubles for the Red Raiders.

Marian Central 4, Montini 1: At Lombard, Aaron Waters won at No. 2 singles, and the Hurricanes defeated the Broncos in Suburban Christian Conference action.

Jacobs 6, McHenry 1: At Algonquin, the Golden Eagles (12-4, 6-2) took all but one match against the Warriors to win in FVC action.

Harvard Triangular: David Martinez won the long jump (18 feet 1 inch) and triple jump (36-81⁄2) for the Hornets, who won the team championship (117 points).

Jacob Tonkin won the 200 meters for Marian Central, which finished second (40).
Zack Kleven won the shot put (42-8) and discus (136-11) for Alden-Hebron (27 points).

SFlbWATER POLO

McHenry 12, Loyola 9: At McHenry, Reilly Shanahan scored four goals and had six steals to lead the Warriors to a win against Loyola, the 11th ranked team in the state by illpolo.com.

Dylan Clohessy scored three goals for McHenry (20-4) which is ranked ninth.
