


Nelson, George lift Tigers to tennis titleCRYSTAL LAKE – Crystal Lake Central’s Tommy Nelson and Tyler George combined to go 6-0 at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, and the Tigers won the Prairie Ridge Tennis Invitational on Saturday. Neither Nelson nor George lost a set. Central (26 points) beat out seven other teams for the championship. Prairie Ridge, which was split into two teams, took third and fourth place with the team of Jack Hogan and Spencer Schano finishing third at No. 1 doubles. Cary-Grove took seventh (11 points) with a fifth-place finish at No. 2 doubles. Marengo took eighth with five points. CL South Invitational: Scott Subak and Andy DeBoer went 3-1 and finished second to lead the Gators (17 points) to a second-place team finish. Fremd earned 18 points and won the eight-team event. Wauconda Triangular: Mahi Islam (No. 1 singles), Eric Loboda and Francis Ramirez (No. 3 doubles), and Pat Walsh and Jose Valentinez (No. 4 doubles) went 2-0, and Huntley (7-8) defeated Wauconda, 5-2, and Grant, 4-3, in non-conference action. BASEBALL Prairie Ridge 4, Woodstock 0: At Woodstock, Andrew Kovarik pitched a complete-game five-hit shutout to lead the Wolves in their Fox Valley Conference Fox Division win against the Blue Streaks. Prairie Ridge (15-3 overall, 10-8 FVC Fox) was led by Jon Williams, who went 2 for 4 with a solo home run, and Corey Peterson, who went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs. Tyler Weiss and Drew Furlano each went 2 for 3 to lead Woodstock (7-15, 2-11). Grayslake North 6, Woodstock North 5: At Grayslake, Tyler Loescher went 2 for 3 with a double, home run and two RBIs for the Thunder (4-15, 0-13) in an FVC Fox loss to the Knights (4-20, 3-10). CL South 9, Hoffman Estates 7: At Carpentersville, Nick Martin (3-1) struck out four and limited the Hawks to five runs to earn the non-conference win for the Gators (13-9). Martin also went 3 for 3 with a home run, and four RBIs to lead South’s offense. Cary-Grove 18, Wauconda 3: At Wauconda, Mike Devoe (2-2) pitched seven innings with five strikeouts and allowed three runs, and the Trojans scored 13 runs in the sixth and seventh innings to defeat the Bulldogs in non-conference action. Eric Chandler, who had three RBIs, and Chris Waylock each hit home runs for C-G (15-8). Jacobs 7, Palatine 3: At Elgin, the Golden Eagles got a complete game from Greg Leassure (4-1) as he struck out six and earned the win. Matt Schmidt went 3 for 3 with two runs scored, and Brett Kale went 2 for 3 with two RBIs to lead Jacobs (10-10-1). Hoffman Estates 11, Dundee-Crown 7: At Carpentersville, Jake Romano went 2 for 3 with an RBI, and Nick Spagnola went 2 for 4 with two RBIs for D-C, but the Chargers (10-13, 7-7) lost in non-conference action. Grant 4, McHenry 2: At McHenry, the Warriors (15-5) dropped a non-conference game to the Bulldogs under the lights at Peterson Park. Richmond-Burton 4-10, Rockford Lutheran 2-9: At Richmond, Kenny Dziukala went 3 for 5 with a home run and six RBIs and led the Rockets (11-13) in their Big Northern Conference crossover doubleheader sweep. Bryan Leslie (3-4) and Matt Malecki each picked up a win for R-B. Aurora Christian 7-5, Hampshire 6-6: At Hampshire, Ryan Burke went 2 for 4 with a home run, double and four RBIs, and Ron Laramie went 4 for 6 with a double, triple and four RBIs to lead the Whip-Purs in their non-conference doubleheader split. Shane Hernandez (2-0) earned the win in the second game for Hampshire (12-8). Vernon Hills 16, Marengo 3: At Marengo, Caleb Noble went 1 for 1 with an RBI, and Brad Seemann went 1 for 1 with two runs scored for the Indians (3-19) in a non-conference loss to the Cougars. TRACK Oregon Invitational: At Oregon, Marengo’s Joe Janssen took fifth in the 800 meters (2:05.26), and the Indians (12 points) finished 14th out of 25 teams. Woodstock North’s Jon Walsh finished sixth in the pole vault (11 feet, 6 inches) and the triple jump (38-11⁄2), and the Thunder finished 19th. Hampshire’s Andrew Sim took 13th in the triple jump (36-021⁄2).
