Luczak, Marian top Montini

LOMBARD – Dave Luczak pitched seven innings and struck out five for Marian Central in its 4-2 Suburban Christian Conference Blue Division baseball win against Montini on Monday.

Riley Baldalf went 2 for 3 and drove in a run, as did Karl Steiger, who scored a run for the Hurricanes (15-6, 6-3). The win keeps Marian in the hunt for the SCC Blue title.

Grayslake North 14, Woodstock North 12 (9 inn.): At Woodstock, Ryan Baltes went 5 for 5 with a double and a triple, and Eddie Bauer went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs in the Thunder’s extra-inning loss. Woodstock North (4-16, 0-4) trailed by five runs entering the bottom of the eighth when it rallied to tie the game, but the Knights (5-20, 4-10) scored twice in the ninth.

Grayslake Central 7, Johnsburg 3: At Grayslake, C. J. Hernandez went 3 for 4, and Michael Molway went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI for the Skyhawks (7-14, 4-10), who lost an FVC Fox game to the Rams (16-6, 10-4).

Burlington Central 17, Hampshire 2: At Hampshire, Marcus Quick, Ryan DeChant and Nick Holze hit doubles, and Jared Wienke drove in a run for Hampshire (12-9, 4-1) in a BNC East Division loss to Burlington (22-1, 6-0).

Round Lake 11, Alden-Hebron 1 (5 inn.): At Round Lake, Cody Eskridge had a double, the only hit for the Giants (1-16) in their non-conference loss.

TRACK

Cary-Grove Triangular: At Cary, Jason Maxwell won the 3,200-meters (10:38) and the 1,600 (4:52) and led Cary-Grove (70.5 points) to the meet win. Jacobs (48.5) took second and was led by David Grady’s wins in the 200 (23.51 seconds) and long jump (18-111⁄2). Matt Biederwolf won the 800 (2:01) to lead Crystal Lake South (30).

Dundee-Crown Triangular: Woodstock North (27) took second overall, just in front of Woodstock (20).
Woodstock North finished second in the 4x100 relay (47.2) , and Mike Kremske took second in the 100 (11.4) for Woodstock.

Grayslake Central Triangular: Marcus Popenfoose won the discus (176-4) and the shot put (54-41⁄2) and led Huntley (58) to a second-place finish. Grayslake Central won the meet with 98 points.

CL Central Quadrangular: Chris Alvarez won the 1,600 (4:34) and led Crystal Lake Central (101) to the meet win. McHenry (80.5) placed second and was led by Jake Howe’s winning throw of 142-2 in the discus. Dakota Pruitt won the 3,200 (10:31) and led Johnsburg (76.5) to a third-place finish. Prairie Ridge (71) placed fourth and was led by Stephen Covalt’s winning long jump of 19-71⁄4.

TENNIS

Huntley 5, Marengo 0: At Huntley, Tanner Novalinski (No. 1 singles) and Dylan Rehner (No. 2 singles) helped the Red Raiders sweep the Indians in a non-conference match.

Belvidere North 5, Woodstock North 4: At Woodstock, Genyl Rufino and Peter Jackson won at No. 1 doubles, but the Thunder (1-12) lost a non-conference dual meet.
