


Marengo wins BNC EastRICHMOND – Marengo’s softball team clinched sole possession of the Big Northern Conference East Division title with a 10-0 victory against Richmond-Burton, the Indians’ first outright championship since 2004. Danielle Simons improved to 17-2, giving up three hits over six innings, walking three and striking out six for the Indians (26-3 overall, 8-0 BNC East), who have two division games remaining. Miranda Burns was 2 for 3 and Lauren Smith was 1 for 2 for the Rockets (10-15, 2-5). Harvard 6, Hampshire 0: At Harvard, Lindsay Melson (17-6) allowed only one hit and struck out 12 to earn a complete-game shutout for Harvard in a BNC East victory against Hampshire (6-16, 0-5). Ashley Crosby went 2 for 3 for the Hornets (17-7, 5-3) with a double and a run. Prairie Ridge 8, Woodstock 0: At Crystal Lake, Johanna Turner (11-7) was one out away from a perfect game in a Fox Valley Conference Fox Division game when Abby Haubold of Woodstock (3-20, 1-9) hit a double. Turner struck out 11. Anna Patras went 3 for 3 for the Wolves (18-9, 11-1), and Aaron Smith and Kirsten Stevens each added two hits. Grayslake North 8, Woodstock North 2: At Woodstock, Kendyl Schwebke went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, Nikki Greenhill went 2 for 3 with two runs scored for the Thunder (10-17, 7-7) in their FVC Fox loss to the Knights (13-9, 9-4). Johnsburg 6, Grayslake Central 3: At Grayslake, Mary Chamberlain (7-10) struck out four to earn the win and went 4 for 4 with an RBI for the Skyhawks (9-15, 5-8) in their FVC Fox win against the Rams (5-18, 3-10). Mary Kate Wright went 2 for 4 with two RBIs for Johnsburg. Cary-Grove 8, Hersey 0: Arlington Heights, Taylor Dunne went 2 for 3 with a double, home run, and two RBIs, and Lindsay Efflandt (15-3) struck out eight and pitched a complete game to earn the non-conference win for C-G (20-6). CL South 12, Mundelein 7: At Mundelein, Tori Maule went 4 for 5 with a home run and three RBIs, Liz Adams went 4 for 5 with two doubles, and the Gators (10-12) defeated Mundelein in a non-conference contest. Vernon Hills 6, McHenry 3: At McHenry, Brenda Botzenhart went 1 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs, but the Warriors (9-12) could not get another run after scoring three in the top of the first in their non-conference loss. SOCCER Huntley 6, Dundee-Crown 0: At Huntley, the Red Raiders (18-3-1, 8-1) clinched at least a share of the FVC Valley Division championship behind three goals and two assists from Aimee Wronski, and Deanna Libricz made nine saves for D-C (4-9-3, 1-7). CL Central 1, Woodstock North 0: At Crystal Lake, Erin Frazier scored the only goal of the game for the Tigers (10-4, 8-3) in an FVC match against Woodstock North (2-11, 0-9). Megan Mannix earned an assist on the goal. Prairie Ridge 5, Johnsburg 2: At Crystal Lake, Erin Kehoe set a school record for goals scored in a game with five, and the Wolves (17-1-2, 10-0-0) defeated the Skyhawks in FVC Fox action. Rebecca Stelzer scored both of the goals for Johnsburg (6-11-0, 4-6-0). Hampshire 3, Marengo 1: At Marengo, Alex Field, Tami Mason, and Cassie Dumoulin scored goals for the Whip-Purs (15-5, 8-0), and they defeated the Indians (9-9-0, 4-4-0) in BNC East action. Alexa Torman scored for Marengo. TRACK Big Northern Conference Meet: At Genoa, Allison Rogutich won the triple jump (34 feet, 9 inches), placed second in the 100-meter hurdles (15.64 seconds) and the 300 hurdles (48.03) and anchored the second-place 4x100 meter relay team to lead Marengo (69 points) to a third-place finish. Holly Plichta won the 3,200 for Hampshire (66), which took fourth place. Talia Sheedlo took third in the triple jump (32-6 3/4) to lead Richmond-Burton (43) to a sixth-place finish. Harvard (14, 10th place) received all of its points from Emily Scott who placed second in the shot put (34-3) and third in the discus (96-8). Suburban Christian Conference Meet: At Aurora, Marian Central’s Madi Smith took fifth in the high jump (4-6), and Ali Manning was seventh in the 3,200 (12:24.81).
