


Three local pitchers toss no-hittersSomething was in the air Monday for three baseball pitchers in McHenry and Kane counties. Crystal Lake Central’s Connor Sadzeck, Johnsburg’s Mitch Noncek and Hampshire’s Shane Hernandez each threw a no-hitter. Crystal Lake Central defeated Grayslake North, 1-0, in Fox Valley Conference Fox Division play behind Sadzeck, who struck out 14 and walked one. The Tigers (15-10 overall, 7-8 FVC Fox) scored in the bottom of the first and held on to defeat the Knights (6-11, 7-21). Johnsburg’s Noncek (6-4) struck out seven and walked none to earn a 10-0 FVC Fox win against Woodstock North (6-19, 0-17) in five innings. The Skyhawks (9-15, 5-10) were led by Trevor Cherwin, who was 2 for 4 with three RBIs, and C.J. Hernandez, who was 1 for 3 with four runs scored, a triple and two RBIs. Hampshire freshman Hernandez (3-1) entered into the no-hit pool with a six-inning, three-strikeout no-hitter for the Whip-Purs (14-11) in a 10-0 non-conference win against Rockford Christian. Hernandez also went 1 for 3 with two RBIs, and Dylan Nihells went 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Grayslake Central 10, Woodstock 0: At Woodstock, Rams pitcher Matt Murphy went four innings and struck out four in an FVC Fox Division win. Grayslake Central (19-6, 13-4) had 11 hits. Logan Kunzie hit a double for Woodstock (8-9, 2-15). McHenry 3, Dundee-Crown 0: At McHenry, Pat Maher went 1 for 2 with two RBIs, and Pat Murphy (7-2) struck out six for the Warriors in their FVC Valley win against the Chargers (10-15, 7-8). Nick Spagnola and Kirk Hanselmann each went 1 for 3 for D-C. Harvard 10, Genoa-Kingston 9: At Harvard, Chase Blazier drove in the winning run from second base with a double in the bottom of the seventh, and the Hornets (19-6) defeated the Cogs in a Big Northern Conference crossover game. Collin Nolen (5-0) struck out five and pitched 41⁄3 innings of shutout baseball to earn the win. Aurora Christian 4, Marian Central 3: At Aurora, Karl Steiger went 1 for 3 with a solo home run and Brett Kosar went 2 for 3 with double for the Hurricanes (17-9) in their Suburban Christian Conference crossover loss. Alden-Hebron 19, Christian Liberty 2 (5 inn.): At Arlington Heights, Connor Schroeder went 5 for 5 with three RBIs and struck out six to earn the win for the Giants in a Northeastern Athletic Conference win. Also for A-H (2-17, 2-7), Cody Eskridge doubled, drove in three and scored three runs. TRACK AND FIELD Woodstock North Triangular: Marcus Popenfoose won the shot put (55 feet, 1 inch) and discus (199-3) for Huntley, which finished first with 76 points. Jon Walsh won the high jump (5-0) and triple jump (3-31⁄4) for Woodstock North (53), which finished second. Danny Trevor won the 100-meter high hurdles (14.7 seconds) and 300 intermediate hurdles (40.0) for Jacobs (49). Grayslake North Quadrangular: Ryan Alvarez won the 1,600 in 4:32.4 for Crystal Lake Central, which finished first with 63 points. Kerry Kohlbacher won the 400 (50.8) for Prairie Ridge, which finished third (44). Grayslake Central was second with 53, and Grayslake North had 11. Johnsburg Triangular: Pat Livengood won the long jump (17-2), triple jump (36-5) and the high jump (5-10) for Dundee-Crown, which won with 97 points. Matt Biederwolf won the 800 (2:05.8) for Crystal Lake South (41). Jerry Ganshirt won the 300 intermediate hurdles (42.56) for Johnsburg (30). TENNIS Dundee-Crown 6, Woodstock North 1: At Carpentersville, Liam Blume and Kevin Brandstatter won at No. 1 doubles for the Chargers (5-10, 2-9) in an FVC win. Genyl Rufino won at No. 1 singles for the Thunder (1-15, 0-12). Marian Central 5, Huntley 2: At Huntley, Conor Moon and Brian Pavey won at No. 1 doubles, and the Hurricanes defeated the Red Raiders in a non-conference match. Mahi Islam won at No. 3 singles for Huntley.
