Agnes’ goal holds up for South against Jacobs

ALGONQUIN – Alison Agnes scored an unassisted goal in the second overtime to give Crystal Lake South’s girls soccer team a 1-0 Fox Valley Conference Valley Division win against Jacobs on Monday.

The win keeps the Gators one game behind first-place Huntley.

Also for South (15-7-2 overall, 17-2 FVC Valley), Elizabeth Quinn made five saves.

The loss drops the Golden Eagles to 10-10-2 and 3-6 in the FVC Valley.

Johnsburg 3, Grayslake North 2: At Johnsburg, Rebecca Stelzer scored two second-half goals to lead the Skyhawks (7-11, 5-7 FVC Fox) to an FVC Fox Division win. Johnsburg’s Natasha Kopystynsky made 10 saves.

Hampshire 2, IMSA 1: At Hampshire, Alex Field and Cassie Dumoulin scored for the Whip-Purs (16-5) in a non-conference win. Hampshire’s Alex Dumoulin made five saves.

SOFTBALL

Jacobs 8, CL South 1: At Algonquin, Marissa Lombardo (10-2) struck out eight and limited the Gators to three hits in an FVC Valley win for the Golden Eagles (15-7, 8-3). Jacobs was led by Sara Jacobson, who was 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, and Ashley Morales, who was 2 for 3 with a double. Liz Adams hit a solo home run to lead South (10-13, 3-8).

McHenry 16, Dundee-Crown 5: At Carpentersville, Brenda Botzenhart hit two doubles and drove in two runs, and Nicole Wallace drove in three runs for the Warriors (10-12, 6-6) in their FVC Valley win. Tiffany Rawlinson hit three singles for D-C (1-19, 0-12).

Woodstock 12, Grayslake Central 2 (5 inn.): At Woodstock, Abby Haubold led the Blue Streaks (4-20, 2-9), going 2 for 3 with two runs scored, a triple and two RBIs. Kara McCaughrean went 3 for 3 with two runs scored, a triple and two RBIs for Woodstock in its FVC Fox win against the Rams (5-19, 3-11).

Johnsburg 15, Woodstock North 0 (5 inn.): At Johnsburg, Mary Chamberlain earned the win, scored two runs and drove in two for the Skyhawks (10-15, 6-8) in an FVC Fox win against the Thunder (10-18, 7-8).

CL Central 9, Grayslake North 7: At Grayslake, Tara Weber drove in two runs for the Tigers (18-7, 11-2 FVC Fox) in an FVC Fox win against the Knights (13-10, 9-5).

Harvard 11, Genoa-Kingston 1: At Genoa, Lindsay Melson struck out 11 and allowed one hit for the Hornets in a Big Northern Conference crossover win. Also for Harvard (19-8), Sam Herely had two doubles, a triple and scored four runs.

Guerin 6, Marian Central 3: At River Grove, Dorothy Castronova doubled and drove in two runs for the Hurricanes (8-11) in a Suburban Christian Conference crossover loss.

TRACK AND FIELD

CL Central Triangular: Jessie Wells won the 100-meter hurdles (17.0 seconds) and took second in the long jump (15 feet, 6 1/2 inches) to lead the host Tigers (57 points) to a second-place finish. Wauconda won with 97 points.
