Harvard's Scott qualifies for state track meet

ROCKFORD – Harvard’s Emily Scott qualified for state in two events and set a school record in the shot put at the girls track Class 1A Rockford Christian Sectional on Friday.

Scott won the shot put with a distance of 36 feet, 51⁄4 inches, and a 114-foot discus throw.

Brittany Carr also qualifed in two events. Carr won the 800 meter run in 2:28.52, and qualified in the 800 relay with the team of Kirsten Widmayer, Shawn Widmayer and Kassie Wallner, which finished second in 10:35.98.

SOFTBALL

Prairie Ridge 8, Grayslake Central 0: At Grayslake, Kirsten Stevens took a perfect game into the bottom of seventh, but gave up a single with two outs in the Wolves’ Fox Valley Conference Fox Division win.

Tessa Rife was 2-4 with an RBI and Anna Patras was 3-5 with a home run and three RBIs for Prairie Ridge (20-9 overall, 13-1 FVC Fox).

Woodstock 2, Woodstock North 1: At Woodstock, Joanna Tilstra bunted in the winning run in the ninth inning as the Blue Streaks won the FVC Fox game over their crosstown rivals.

Abby Haubold scored a run for Woodstock (6-20, 3-10 FVC Fox). Kendyl Schwebke had three hits for the Thunder (10-19, 7-9).

Cary-Grove 9, McHenry 0: At McHenry, the Trojans won the FVC Valley outright with a conference win over the Warriors (10-14, 6-8 FVC Valley).

Lindsay Efflandt (19-3) got the win, giving up three hits over seven innings. Abbe Wien-ckowski was 2 for 4 with a home run for the Trojans (23-6, 12-1).

Huntley 1, CL South 0: At Huntley, Nikki DeMarco scored the game’s only run, going 1 for 2 with a double in the Red Raiders’ FVC Valley win.

Taylor Larson earned the win for Huntley (17-9, 9-4 FVC Valley). Liz Adams and Lauren Swanson each had a hit and a walk for the Gators (11-14, 4-9 FVC Valley).

Burlington Central 7, Harvard 5: At Burlington, Ashley Crosby and Stephanie Stephens each had an RBI for the Hornets in their Big Northern Conference East Division loss to the Rockets.

Lindsay Melson (19-9) suffered the loss for Harvard (19-9, 5-4 BNC East), giving up three earned runs on seven hits over seven innings.

CL Central 5, Johnsburg 4: At Crystal Lake, Brittany York had the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the seventh to lead the Tigers to an FVC Fox win.

Jackie Kisman earned the win for Central (20-7, 13-2 FVC Fox), allowing no earned runs over seven innings. Mary Kate Wright was 2-4 with two RBIs for the Skyhawks (10-17, 6-10).

Alden-Hebron 9-19, Rockford Christian 0-3: At Hebron, the Giants won both games of a non-conference doubleheader, winning the second game in five innings.

Haylee Lagerhausen earned the win in Game 1, striking out 13 in seven innings and going 2 for 4 with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI. Sparkle Lagerhausen won Game 2, with Brook Winkelman going 4 for 4 with two doubles, a triple and four RBIs for the Giants (19-11).
