Ignoffo stop CLC

CRYSTAL LAKE – Johnsburg’s Zach Ignoffo limited Crystal Lake Central to four hits in a 2-1 Fox Valley Conference Fox Division win Monday.

Ignoffo stymied the Tigers, striking out eight and walking one.

The Skyhawks (7-12 overall, 11-17 FVC Fox) were led by Michael Molway, who went 2 for 3 with a double.

Central’s Eddie Dunkel took the loss but limited Johnsburg to four hits and struck out nine. Tony Castranova went 1 for 3 with a run scored, and Dominick Minogue went 1 for 3 with an RBI for the Tigers (17-13, 9-11).

Woodstock 8, Woodstock North 0: At Woodstock, Tyler Weiss pitched the Blue Streaks (7-20, 5-9) to an FVC Fox win against the Thunder.

Alex Beard struck out seven for the Thunder (7-22, 0-20) and allowed only two earned runs.

Grayslake Central 11, Prairie Ridge 9: At Grayslake, the Rams (23-7, 17-5) defeated the Wolves in an FVC Fox contest and pulled even with Prairie Ridge (19-10, 15-5) in the loss column atop the division standings.

Huntley 10, CL South 9 (8 inn.): At Huntley, Phil Pupillo picked up his first win of the season by pitching a scoreless eighth and hit a grand slam to lead the Red Raiders (21-8, 14-6) to a come-from-behind, FVC Valley win against the Gators (19-11, 13-7).

Huntley is in a first-place tie with McHenry and Cary-Grove.

Dom Winiecki went 2 for 5 with a home run and a double for South, which scored seven runs in the top of the first.

Jacobs 3, Dundee-Crown 2: At Carpentersville, Greg Leasure went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI and earned the FVC Valley win for the Golden Eagles (16-13-1, 10-10).

Dylan Kissack went 2 for 2 for the Chargers (10-20-1, 7-13).

Marian Central 2, Belvidere North 1: At Woodstock, Karl Steiger was 2 for 2 with an RBI, and the Hurricanes (20-9) defeated the Thunder in non-conference action.

Sycamore 7, Hampshire 4: At Malta, Ryan DeChant hit a home run for the Whip-Purs (14-15) in their non-conference loss at Kishwaukee College.

TENNIS

Spirit of the Northwest Tournament: At Johnsburg, the host Skyhawks (33 points) were led by the singles championships of Dan Martin (No. 1) and Jared Spears (No. 2) in the event featuring teams from the former Northwest Suburban Conference. Huntley (142⁄3) finished second and Marengo (72⁄3) third.

Elgin Academy 5, Woodstock North 0: At Woodstock, the Thunder (1-16) lost in non-conference action against the Hilltoppers.

Marian Central 5, Rockford Lutheran 0: At Rockford, Riley Waters (No. 1) and Aaron Waters (No. 2) won their singles matches in the Hurricanes’ non-conference win.
