Marengo's Simons records 20th win

HAMPSHIRE – Danielle Simons earned her 20th win of the season Wednesday with a 10-0, six-inning Big Northern Conference East Division softball victory against Hampshire.


Simons (20-2) gave up one hit and struck out 11. Reed Karsten was 5 for 5 with an RBI, and Lauren Roudabush was 3 for 4 with three RBIs for the Indians (31-3 overall, 10-0 BNC East).


Marengo coach Dwain Nance said he thought the 31 wins were a school record.
Jen Hurst took the loss for the Whip-Purs (6-17, 0-6).


Huntley 8, Woodstock 3: At Huntley, Hailey Hanson earned her first varsity win, allowing two hits in three innings of relief for the Red Raiders (20-10) in their Fox Valley Conference crossover.


Abby Haubold was 2 for 3 with a solo home run for the Blue Streaks (6-22).


CL Central 6, Dundee-Crown 1: At Carpentersville, Brittany York, Katie Mauro and Jackie Kisman each drove in two runs, and pitcher Sara McConnell struck out six to help the Tigers (23-7) defeat the Chargers in an FVC crossover. Amanda Eissler had three hits for D-C (1-24), including a triple.


Prairie Ridge 2, McHenry 1: At McHenry, Anna Patras went 3 for 4, and Johanna Turner allowed one hit in four innings to earn the FVC crossover win for the Wolves (23-9). Mikaela Mitsch went 2 for 3 with two doubles and an RBI for the Warriors (10-17).


Jacobs 14, Grayslake North 4 (6 inn.): At Algonquin, Marissa Lombardo struck out seven in six innings for an FVC crossover win for the Golden Eagles (18-11). Sarah Jacobson was 4 for 4 with a double for Jacobs.


CL South 9, Grayslake Central 1: At Crystal Lake, Jamie Beelow and Lauren Swanson each went 3 for 3 with Beelow driving in four runs and Swanson three for the Gators (13-15) in their FVC crossover win.


Cary-Grove 5, Woodstock North 0: At Cary, Lindsay Efflandt allowed one hit over seven innings for the Trojans (26-6) in an FVC crossover win.


Emma Gaulke had an RBI double, and Abbe Wienkow-ski was 2 for 3 with a double, a triple and two RBIs. Nikki Greenhill took  the loss for the Thunder (10-22).

BASEBALL


Hampshire 5, Marengo 1 (9 inn.): At Marengo, Jared Weinke hit a three-run home run to give the Whip-Purs (15-15, 6-3) a BNC East win against the Indians (3-25, 0-9). AJ Lohff had an RBI for Marengo.


Woodstock 7, Johnsburg 4: At Woodstock, Shawn Hovlid went 3 for 4 with two RBIs, and Drew Furlano pitched a complete game to help the Blue Streaks (6-16, 12-20) defeat the Skyhawks in FVC Fox action at Emricson Park.
Zach Miller was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI for Johnsburg (11-18, 7-14), which was the home team. The makeup game was moved to Woodstock because Johnsburg’s field was not available.


Prairie Ridge 20, Grayslake North 0 (5 inn.): At Grayslake, Chad Ljunggren was 5 for 5 with five RBIs in the Wolves’ FVC Fox win. Zach Siedlecki and Alex Martini each had three RBIs for Prairie Ridge (20-10, 16-5).


Jacobs 6, McHenry 5 (9 inn.): At McHenry, the Golden Eagles (18-13, 12-10) defeated the Warriors (19-11, 14-8) in an FVC Valley game that dropped McHenry 11⁄2 games behind division leader Cary-Grove.

BOYS TENNIS


Woodstock 5, Marengo 0: At Woodstock, No. 2 singles player Nick Butler and the No. 3 doubles team of Jon Larson and Cameron Fyfe each won, 6-0, 6-0, for the Blue Streaks.

GIRLS SOCCER


Class 3A Barrington Regional: Top-seeded Barrington eliminated fifth-seeded Dundee-Crown with a 2-0 victory in the semifinals and will face Lake Zurich in the final.

Tuesday’s result

Class 2A Lakes Regional: Abby Kargul and Hannah Condit each scored two goals to help third-seeded Richmond-Burton defeat Johnsburg, 4-0. R-B will face top-seeded Lakes in the final at 11 a.m. Saturday.
