On his next attempt, Golowach made 6-9, which ties him for the highest jump in the state this outdoor season, according to dyestat.com, a website that records the state’s top performances. West Aurora’s Aviance King, Granite City’s Marcus Mason and Lockport’s Karrington Ward also have made 6-9. Girls Allison Rogutich Marengo, so. Big-time throw: Harvard senior Emily Scott faced another unsatisfying performance in the Class 1A shot put at the IHSA Girls Track and Field State Meet on Thursday afternoon in Charleston. Scott’s first two throws were nowhere near long enough to qualify. She feared it was going to be another forgettable state appearance. “I came over to my coach and he said, ‘Just throw it out there,’ ” Scott said. “I channeled any aggression I had into that and threw it as far as I could.” Scott’s throw of 35 feet, 9 inches was enough to get her to Saturday’s finals. She qualified as the 12th of 12 competitors to advance. Scott was the only of four Harvard entries to advance from Thursday’s preliminaries. The 4x800-meter relay team of Brittany Carr, Kassie Wallner, Shawn Widmayer and Kirsten Widmayer did not qualify. Scott missed in the discus, and Carr did not make the finals in the 800.
