Huntley blanks Guilford to win girls soccer regional

ROCKFORD – Huntley girls soccer coach Kris Grabner thought his team could have been a bit more patient with its shots Friday in the IHSA Class 3A Jefferson Regional final.

Otherwise, there was little to criticize in the Red Raiders’ 4-0 victory against Guilford that gave Huntley its fourth consecutive regional title.

Huntley will face Barrington in a Boylan Sectional semifinal at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

“It took about five minutes for us to establish our possession on the ball,” Grabner said, “but once we established our possession we controlled the game. We were a little impatient with our shots; there were at least four or five shots that we took right at the goalkeeper, and she did a great job. But overall we played well today. I was very pleased.”

Junior forward Aimee Wronski scored twice for her 27th and 28th goals of the season, and Priscilla Jara and Rachel Chapuis added a goal each.

Emily Konior and Bre Burry had two assists apiece for the Raiders (21-3-1).

“We really need to be looking at making the next step,” said Grabner, whose team has reached the sectional final the past two seasons but come away empty-handed. “We need to look at winning a sectional title and advancing to a supersectional. ... We are very happy to win another regional title, it’s very good for the program, but we need to focus on getting a sectional plaque.”

Class 2A CL Central Sectional: Top-seeded St. Viator defeated third-seeded Crystal Lake Central, 4-0, in the championship game.
