Marengo, Jacobs advance

BELVIDERE – Danielle Simons allowed two hits Wednesday to lead top-seeded Marengo to a 10-0 victory in an IHSA Class 3A Belvidere Regional semifinal against the fourth-seeded host school.

Simons (21-3) struck out 12 and allowed no walks over six innings for the Indians (32-4).

Marengo will play the winner of today’s Freeport-Belvidere North semifinal at 11 a.m. Saturday in the final.

Class 4A Huntley Regional: At Huntley, Sarah Jacobson and Kelsey Peterson each had two doubles and three RBIs to lead second-seeded Jacobs past third-seeded Dundee-Crown, 25-2, in a five-inning semifinal.

Marissa Lombardo earned the win for Jacobs (19-15). Amanda Eissler took the loss for D-C (1-26). Jacobs faces top-seeded Huntley (22-12) in the final at 11 a.m. Saturday.

BASEBALL

Class 3A Belvidere North Regional: At Belvidere, A.J. Lohff was 2 for 3 with two doubles for Marengo (5-30) in its 11-1, five-inning semifinal loss to Belvidere North.

Class 3A Marian Central Regional: At Woodstock, top-seeded Marian Central beat fifth-seeded Johnsburg, 7-2, in a semifinal to advance to the final at 1 p.m. Saturday, where the Hurricanes (23-9) will play the winner of today’s Wauconda/Richmond-Burton semifinal.

GIRLS SOCCER

Class 3A Boylan Sectional: At Rockford, Aimee Wronski scored a first-half goal, but Huntley (21-4-1) lost to Barrington, 2-1, in a semifinal.
