Jacobs goes to sectional

HUNTLEY – The game plan for Jacobs going into Saturday’s IHSA Class 4A Huntley Regional final was to get off to a quick start against top-seeded Huntley.

The second-seeded Golden Eagles scored four times in the first inning in a 6-3 win against the Red Raiders for their first regional title since 2005. Jacobs coach Jeremy Bauer said that the plan worked the way he wanted.

Marissa Lombardo threw a complete game, giving up seven hits. She also had two hits and two RBIs at the plate for Jacobs (21-11). Bauer said he was impressed by Lombardo’s pitching performance.

Kelsey Hagan homered and had two RBIs for Huntley (22-13).

Jacobs will face Hononegah in a Huntley Sectional semifinal at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Class 3A Woodstock North Regional: Lauren Seegers and Erin Smith each had two RBIs as top-seeded Prairie Ridge defeated second-seeded Richmond-Burton, 12-7, to win the regional title. The Wolves (27-9) will play Marengo in Wednesday’s Prairie Ridge Sectional semifinal.

Smith and Lexi Wachman each scored twice for Prairie Ridge. Miranda Burns had three RBIs for the Rockets (14-19).

Class 3A Belvidere Regional: Kaleigh Velasquez homered and had four RBIs as top-seeded Marengo defeated No. 2 seed Freeport, 10-0, in six innings.

Lauren Roudabush scored twice and had two RBIs for the Indians (33-4), and Reed Karsten had two hits and two runs scored.
