Northwest Herald All-Area Girls Soccer TeamFirst team Forwards Korey Kronforst Kronforst’s speed and vision on the field made her a weapon for the Trojans, especially during the postseason when she scored five of C-G’s eight goals. Kronforst finished the season with 20 goals and 10 assists and was an All-Fox Valley Conference selection and received Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association All-Sectional honorable mention. Ashley Ross, Crystal Lake South, sr. Ross, a Toledo recruit, consistently was a threat up top, spending three varsity seasons giving the Gators’ opponents fits. She had 12 goals and six assists this year and often dropped back to help on defense when South carried the lead late in games. Ross was an All-FVC selection and an IHSSCA All-Sectional choice for the third consecutive year. Aimee Wronski, Huntley, jr. Wronski, the Northwest Herald Player of the Year, was the area’s most difficult player to contain and routinely made opponents pay when they gave her even the smallest space. Wronski finished with 29 goals and 11 assists – tops among area players – and committed to Illinois State just before the start of the season. Wronski was an All-FVC selection and was the area’s only IHSSCA All-State recipient. Midfielders Taylor Henning-Fletter, Huntley, sr. Henning-Fletter embodied the grit Huntley coach Kris Grabner expects from his players, playing 20 games this season with two broken bones in her foot. She still managed to anchor the midfield and scored four goals to add to her eight assists. Henning-Fletter was an All-FVC selection and an IHSSCA All-Sectional player. She has committed to Western Illinois. Alex Field, Hampshire sr. Field dominated the Whip-Purs’ midfield for the third consecutive season and played a major role in Hampshire’s 18-6-1 record. Whips coach Pat O’Brien considered Field the best all-around soccer player to come through his program. Field finished the season with 17 goals and eight assists. She was an All-Big Northern Conference East Division selection and is committed to Indiana Tech. Maggie Olsen, Prairie Ridge, sr. Prairie Ridge coach Dave O’Leary said early this season Olsen would be one of his team’s key leaders, and she did not disappoint. The Wolves lost only once during the regular season, partly because of how well Olsen controlled the midfield. The four-year varsity player finished with 11 goals and four assists and was an All-FVC selection and an IHSSCA All-Sectional pick. She is committed to Loyola. Erin Kehoe, Prairie Ridge, sr. Kehoe came onto the high school scene this year after playing three years of strictly club soccer. It took little time for her to become perhaps the area’s most dominant attacking midfielder. She finished the season with 22 goals and nine assists and was the most accurate scorer on O’Leary’s team, he said, adding that Kehoe “took it personally if we were scored on,” since she also took pride in her defensive efforts. Kehoe was an All-FVC selection and an IHSSCA All-Sectional pick. She is committed to Loyola. Nelle Youel, Crystal Lake Central, jr. Youel moved into the midfield this season, which cut into her offensive statistics but allowed coach Joe Schroeder to worry less about his team’s play in the midfield. Youel still had seven goals and eight assists while finishing what Schroeder considered the best of her three seasons on varsity. Youel was an All-FVC selection. Defenders Tess Bottorff, Marian Central, jr. The Hurricanes finished 18-5-1, and Bottorff led the defense to shutouts in 11 of those 18 wins. Coach Jose Arias said Bottorff’s knowledge of the game and natural talent were a big reason for Marian’s success. Bottorff was an All-Suburban Christian Conference selection. Kelsey Taldone, Crystal Lake South, sr. Taldone played every minute of every game this season and led South to 11 shutouts – tied for second most in school history – while adding two goals and seven assists. South coach Brian Allen considers his senior the best one-on-one marking back in the state. She was one of 11 players named to the prestigious Pepsi Showdown All-Tournament team. Taldone was an All-FVC selection and an IHSSCA All-Sectional pick. Goalkeeper Sara Hoffman, Huntley, sr. Hoffman shared time in the net with junior Kaytlyn Owens this season but came up huge when Huntley needed it, including twice against Crystal Lake South during FVC Valley Division play. Hoffman allowed only five goals during the regular season and led the Red Raiders to their first FVC Valley Division title and a 21-4-1 overall record. She is committed to Judson University.
