


Grayslake Central gets jump on JohnsburgGrayslake Central 36, Johnsburg 20 Game summary: At Grayslake, despite carrying the ball 31 times for 214 yards on the ground, the Johnsburg Skyhawks lost their season opener to the Grayslake Central Rams, 36-20, in Fox Valley Conference Fox Division play. Key play: Central senior running back Jahard Nelson ripped off a 76-yard TD run for the Rams on the game’s first play from scrimmage, and the Skyhawks never came any closer the rest of the night. Key stat: The Skyhawks allowed the Rams to rack up a whopping 456 rushing yards on 43 carries. Central junior Joel Valdivia (14 carries, 228 yards) led the way, and two other Rams players surpassed the 100-yard mark on the ground (Nelson, 109 yards, Vinnie Culhane , 121 yards). Johnsburg averaged over seven yards a carry in the first half (20 carries, 144 yards), but scored only seven points by intermission. Top player: Johnsburg senior QB George Bielis was 6-for-8 passing in the second half, for 130 yards. He finished 10-for-21, with 161 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT for the game.
