


Henken’s 4 TDs lead Alden-HebronARLINGTON HEIGHTS – Alden-Hebron came into Saturday’s season-opening football game against Christian Liberty looking to get a quick start on the year. Tyler Henken scored four second-quarter touchdowns as the Giants won the Northeastern Athletic Conference game, 55-0. “We got off to a good drive that took up seven minutes and got us a touchdown to start,” Giants coach John Lalor said. “We began to run off-tackle with misdirection and caught them off-balance. The defense played well and made some nice open-field tackles. It was a good way to get out of the gates with a young team.” Henken finished with 149 yards rushing, and Shane Engelbrecht had 69 yards on the ground for A-H (1-0).
Hampshire 2, CL South 2: At Crystal Lake, Crystal Lake South erased a two-goal deficit to tie the Whip-Purs, 2-2, in non-conference action. Sam Murdock scored the unassisted, game-tying goal for South (1-1-1). Marcus Quick stopped 12 shots for Hampshire. McHenry 0, Evanston 0: At McHenry, the Warriors battled Evanston to a scoreless draw. Goalkeeper Carlos Wence made nine saves for McHenry (0-1-1). Grayslake North 6, Woodstock North 0: At Woodstock, the Knights scored five goals in the second half to put away the Thunder. Goalkeeper Marcos Campos made nine saves for Woodstock North. Rockford Auburn Tournament: At Rockford, Marian Central needed penalty kicks after playing Harlem to a 1-1 tie to win the tournament championship and remain undefeated. Trevor Diddrich converted his penalty kick to seal the Hurricanees’ win. Marian (6-0) overcame adversity in the semifinal against Guilford, scoring twice in the final five minutes for a 2-1 comeback win. Austin Sierakowski headed in the Hurricanes’ game-winner in the semifinal off a long throw-in from Nick Pierce. Also in the tournament, Woodstock shut out Rock Island, 2-0, behind goals from Marco Ordonez and Luis Arellano. Rodolfo Carreon made seven saves for the Blue Streaks (2-1-1). Colin Smith Invitational: At Stillman Valley, Marengo took third place in the tournament, beating Keith School, 2-1. The Indians (2-2) lost to Stillman Valley, 4-0.
McHenry Invitational: At Harvard, Crystal Lake South’s Nick Robles shot a 2-under-par 69 to take first, and Crystal Lake Central’s Corban Murphy’s 75 was good for third at Oak Grove. South finished second as a team with 316 strokes, one shot behind Harlem. McHenry’s Andrew Riesinger shot a 79 to help the Warriors (334) take sixth, and Prairie Ridge’s Pat Biewald shot an 84 to help the Wolves (350) take seventh. Bulldog Golf Invitational: At Antioch, Jake Gasior’s 89 was the low score for Johnsburg (367), which finished fifth in the six-team tournament at Antioch Golf Club.
