


Marian tips Rosary in volleyball victoryWOODSTOCK – Marian Central’s girls volleyball team had gone to the limit in three of its first five matches of the season. On Wednesday against Rosary, it was no different as Emma Hussey had 12 kills as the Hurricanes won, 25-21, 31-33, 25-19, in their Suburban Christian Conference Blue Division opener. Marian coach Laura Watling said the Game 2 loss actually helped her team. “Even though we lost that second game, I was so excited with the play of my girls,” Watling said. “I think that created a positive going into that third game. We really pushed them, and all the pressure was on them and my girls felt kind of loose after that second game.” Tara Blake had 10 kills while Dena Ott had 26 digs for Marian (6-0 overall, 1-0 SCC). Hampshire 2, Rockford Lutheran 0: At Hampshire, Tia Incaprio had five digs as the Whip-Purs won their non-conference season opener, 25-14, 26-24. Melanie Bonk had three kills in the win for the Whips (1-0). TENNIS CL South 6, Rolling Meadows 1: At Rolling Meadows, Marisa Thome won at No. 1 singles as the Gators won the non-conference match. Kelsey Laktash and Julia Thome won at No. 2 and 3 singles, respectively, for South (3-1). Belvidere North 4, Hampshire 3: At Belvidere, Kendall Walker and Stacy Krach won at No. 1 doubles as the Whip-Purs lost their non-conference match. Taylor Zilch and Emily Moser won at No. 2 doubles for Hampshire (0-3). Marian Central 3, Rockford Lutheran 2: At Woodstock, the Hurricanes swept all three doubles matches to get the non-conference win. Danielle Hedlin and Elizabeth Burrali won at No. 1 doubles for Marian (3-2). Marengo 3, Marian Central 2: At Marengo, the Indians defeated the Hurricanes for the first time in more than 20 years, Marengo coach Jay Mathis said, in Marengo’s non-conference win Tuesday. Sarah Olson and Brittany Barrier won at No. 1 doubles for Marengo (3-1). GOLF CL Central 169, Johnsburg 280: At Turnberry in Lakewood, Lexi Harkins shot a 2-over-par 38 as the Tigers won the Fox Valley Conference match. Ashley Booth added a 42 for Central (4-0, 3-0). Andrea Lindal had a 62 for the Skyhawks (0-3, 0-3). Huntley 180, Jacobs 210: At Pinecrest in Huntley, Roxy Kelly shot a 6-over 42 as the Red Raiders won in FVC play. Holly Dryden added a 44 for Huntley (1-2, 1-1). Morgan Harvey shot a 46 to lead the Golden Eagles (1-1, 1-1). Burlington Central 190, Harvard 233: At Beaver Creek in Capron, Sam Hereley shot a 15-over 50 as the Hornets lost in BNC play. Michaela Binz added a 52 for Harvard (0-4, 0-2). McHenry 192, Dundee-Crown 247: At Boone Creek in Bull Valley, Kaylee Ross took medalist honors for the Warriors by shooting a 10-over 45. Sarah Tompkins led the Chargers (0-3) with a 52. Prairie Ridge 178, Hoffman Estates 187, Larkin 234: At The Highlands in Elgin, Danielle Roulo shot a 3-over 39 for medalist honors for the Wolves (8-0).
