Lake Zurich slips past C-G late

Game summary: At Cary, for three quarters, Cary-Grove’s defense held Lake Zurich scoreless. In the fourth quarter, the Trojans’ defense ran out of steam as Lake Zurich scored 10 points to get the victory. Cary-Grove’s Nick Taylor kicked a 40-yard first-quarter field goal for the Trojans’ only score.

Key play: Lake Zurich running back Jacob Brinlee scored on a 65-yard touchdown run with 56 seconds left in the game to give the Bears the lead.

Key stat: Cary-Grove quarterback Corey Laktas was sacked four times for 36 yards in loss.

Top player: Brinlee rushed for 164 yards and had the game-winning score.
