Dixon on coaches’ All-State first team

The Illinois Basketball Coaches Association recognized five local players on its Class 3A/4A All-State Girls Basketball teams Friday.

Johnsburg senior guard Melissa Dixon was named to the IBCA’s All-State first team, and Cary-Grove senior forward Claire Jakubicek was named to the second team.

C-G senior guard Megan Straumann and Hampshire senior forward Alex Dumoulin were selected to the fourth team. C-G junior guard Paige Lincicum and C-G sophomore forward Olivia Jakubicek received special mentions.

Vilardo, two Gators honored: The Chicago Metropolitan Hockey League Central Division announced its award winners for the 2010-11 season.

Cary-Grove’s Mike Vilardo was named Player of the Year. He led the division in scoring.

Crystal Lake South’s Brian Lichterman won the Leadership Award, and Jack Willet won the Academic and Community Service Award.

Van Dorin misses three-point title repeat: Hampshire senior basketball player Jessie Van Dorin finished fourth in the IHSA Class 3A Three-Point Showdown on Friday at Illinois State University’s Redbird Arena. Van Dorin, the defending Class 3A champion, hit 7 of 15 shots.

Illiana Christian’s Erinn Behn made 10 to win the title.
