


Marengo slips past WoodstockMARENGO – Alexa Torman’s hat trick helped Marengo build a big lead early, and the Indians held on to defeat Woodstock, 4-3, in a non-conference girls soccer match Tuesday. Cassidy Grimschied added an unassisted score for Marengo, which led, 4-0, after the first half. Goalkeeper Brittany Berrier had 10 saves. “We gave up the ball a lot,” Indians coach Brandon Holton said. “I thought Woodstock outplayed us in terms of passing and holding on to the ball.” Analleli Zarate, Katie Ruben and Teresa Arellano each scored for the Blue Streaks (1-1) in the second half. Harvard 2, Belvidere 1: At Belvidere, Mikhal Stricker scored a pair of second-half goals as the Hornets (1-0-1) defeated the Bucs in a non-conference game. Shannon Ditsch and Grace Iftner had assists for Harvard. Patience Esunis had seven saves in goal. Iftner played a through-ball that Stricker ran down and chipped over the goalkeeper’s head for the game-winning goal in the 78th minute.
BNC Invitational: At Byron, Marengo’s 4x800 relay team of Katie Sprague, Paige Malinowski, Morgan Bartlett and Shawney Damisch took first with a time of 10:17.60, and the Indians (66 points) took third place as a team. Hampshire (65) took fourth, and Richmond-Burton (34) finished sixth as a team.
