CLC wins own track meet

CRYSTAL LAKE – Kate Idstein and Jessie Wells each won two events for the Crystal Lake Central girls track team Monday, helping the Tigers win their triangular meet with 96 points.

Idstein won the long jump at 15 feet, 111⁄4 inches and 400 meters in 1:02.00 with Wells taking the triple jump at 31-10 and the 100 high hurdles in 17.2 seconds, as the Tigers won 12 of 18 events.

Woodstock took third with 26.5 points, as Maura Beattie won the 1,600 in 5:20.39. Woodstock also won the 4x400 relay, and Odessa Peters took second in the 800 at 2:37.1.

Grayslake North (56.5) took second.

Prairie Ridge Quadrangular: At Crystal Lake, Laura D’Angelo won the 100 in a time of 12.9 seconds, Lisa Holm took first in the 300 low hurdles (53.1 seconds) and McHenry defeated Prairie Ridge, Woodstock North and Jacobs. McHenry (93.5 points) also won the 4x100 relay, finishing in 51.3 seconds.

Taylor Humm won the shot put (36-8) and the discus (108-10) for the Wolves, who finished second with 91.5 points. Woodstock North had 47 points and finished third, and Jacobs took fourth with 43 points.

SOFTBALL

Dundee-Crown 14, Woodstock 1: At Carpentersville, Melany Love had five RBIs and a double and struck out nine to earn the FVC crossover win for the Chargers (2-2).
Janelle Krueger had a double for the Blue Streaks (0-4).

Cary-Grove 13, Johnsburg 3: At Cary, Lindsay Efflandt went 3 for 3 with a double, a home run, and four RBIs and struck out nine in five innings for the Trojans (4-0) in an FVC crossover win. Lisa Semro added four RBIs and a double on three hits.

Mary Chamberlain pitched 32⁄3 innings for the Skyhawks (0-2).

McHenry 8, Grayslake Central 2: At McHenry, Brenda Botzenhart homered, and Mikaela Mitsch had two doubles for the Warriors (1-0) in their FVC crossover win.

CL South 6, Grayslake North 3: At Crystal Lake, Hannah Mahoney struck out nine in seven innings to earn her first win for the Gators (5-1) this season and added an RBI in an FVC crossover win. Sam Golf was 2 for 3 with a triple and two RBIs for South.

Alden-Hebron 12, North Boone 2 (6 inn.): At Hebron, Hayli Lagerhausen pitched a complete game and earned her third win of the season, giving up two hits with eight strikeouts and three walks for the Giants (4-3) in a non-conference win. Julie Bryan had four RBIs on 3 for 3 hitting, and Lagerhausen (3 for 4) and Joy Bryan (1 for 1) each added two RBIs.

SOCCER

McHenry 5, Wauconda 2: At Wauconda, Molly Machometa scored three goals, Sarah McNaughton had two assists, and McHenry defeated Wauconda in its season opener. Jill Pohlman made nine saves for the Warriors (1-0).

Hampshire 4, Belvidere 0: At Belvidere, Dakota Walther, Mandy Zessin, Helena Van Eck and Jori Anderson each scored a goal for the Whip-Purs (2-1-4) in their non-conference win.
