Huntley ekes out softball win

HUNTLEY – Huntley freshman Ashley Laxner drove in the game-winning run on a single in the bottom of the eighth inning Wednesday in the Red Raiders’ 2-1 Fox Valley Conference Valley Division win against Crystal Lake South.

Taylor Larson picked up her fourth win of the season for Huntley (5-7 overall, 2-1 FVC Valley), allowing three hits and striking out six in eight innings, and Randi Peterson was 2 for 3 with an RBI.

Liz Adams went 2 for 4 with a double and two stolen bases for the Gators (7-3, 1-2), and Hannah Mahoney struck out 10

Prairie Ridge 7, Grayslake Central 0: At Grayslake, Lauren Seegers went 3 for 4 with two doubles, Emily Doomis and Erin Smith each had two hits, and the Wolves (6-5, 3-0) defeated the Rams (6-6, 2-2) in FVC Fox play. Kirsten Stevens pitched a two-hit shutout with nine strikeouts and three walks.

Cary-Grove 17, McHenry 1: At McHenry, Lisa Semro went 3 for 5 with a home run, Emma Gaulke went 4 for 6, and Alexis Haley went 4 for 4 to lead the Trojans (10-1, 3-0) in an FVC Valley victory. Lindsay Efflandt (8-1) struck out nine, walked one and allowed an earned run to earn the win.

Sara Wegner struck out two in five innings for the Warriors (3-4, 1-2).

Woodstock North 7, Woodstock 3: At Woodstock, Nikki Greenhill picked up her second win of the season for the Thunder, allowing three hits and striking out six in five innings in their FVC Fox win.

Greenhill also went 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI for the Thunder (2-6, 1-2). Kara McCaughren struck out six over six innings for the Blue Streaks (0-8, 0-4) and went 1 for 3 at the plate.

Jacobs 7, Dundee-Crown 0 (6 inn.): At Carpentersville, Amber Livingston struck out 10 and walked one in a six-inning shutout for the Golden Eagles (6-6, 2-1) in their FVC Valley win.

Amanda Eissler and Shelby Spjuth each had singles for the Chargers (2-6, 1-3).

Carmel 12, Marian Central 2: At Mundelein, Kat Landers and Kelsey Harding each went 1 for 2 with a single for the Hurricanes (3-2) in their non-conference loss.

BASEBALL

Gurnee Warren 9, McHenry 1: At Gurnee, Cody Freund went 2 for 2 with a double and drove in the only run for the Warriors (5-6) in their non-conference loss.

Michael Kelly struck out six in five innings for McHenry.

Johnsburg 5, Harvard 4: At Johnsburg, Brandon Ridout went 3 for 4, including the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the seventh, and Cam Adams added a home run and two RBIs for the Skyhawks (3-10) in their non-conference win.

Dane Miller homered for the Hornets (5-10), and Collin Nolen went 2 for 4 with a double, a triple, and two runs scored.

Woodstock North 13, Luther North 2 (6 inn.): At Chicago, Matt McGinley picked up his second win of the season for the Thunder (4-6) in their non-conference win, allowing one hit over four innings.

BOYS TENNIS

Grayslake North 4, McHenry 3: At Grayslake, Dave Robinson and Jake Romme won their No. 1 doubles match, 6-0, 6-2, for the Warriors in their FVC loss.

Rockford Lutheran 4, Woodstock 3: At Woodstock, Jonny Fabian won his No. 1 singles match, 6-2, 6-2, for the Blue Streaks (2-3) in their non-conference win.

GIRLS BADMINTON

McHenry 15, Larkin 0: At McHenry, Mary Kate Freund won at No. 1 singles, 21-5, 17-21, 21-14, and Peyton Freund won at No. 2 singles, 20-22, 21-12, 21-15, for the Warriors in their non-conference win.

BOYS WATER POLO

McHenry 19, Lake Forest 5: At McHenry, Phil Lesniak scored four goals, and Scott Dabrowski, Andrew Hertel, Drew Schmitt and Kyle Braun each added three goals for the Warriors (16-4).
