McKinney had a hand in 38 points for the Tigers, who scored 114 points to win the McHenry County Track and Field Meet by 18 points. McKinney won the long jump (20-61⁄4) and the 300-meter intermediate hurdles (40.42 seconds) and teamed with Isaiah Mosher, Brett Schuld and Josiah Becker to win the 4x200 relay. McKinney also was in on Central’s 4x400 relay, which took second place to cap off the Tigers’ great night. Girls Athlete of the Week Kayla Beattie Woodstock, sr. Beattie set McHenry County Track and Field Meet records in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs, breaking her own marks in both races. Beattie ran 4:56.57 in the 1,600, 8 seconds ahead of her record. She earlier ran 10:16.48 in the 3,200, 27 seconds faster than her record in that race. Beattie’s 10:16.48 would rank second in the nation according to dyestat.com, a track and field and cross country website. Noteworthy Rorer hanging back: McHenry senior Miranda Rorer strained her left quadriceps muscle about a month ago and has not been able to run, but still was able to take second in the long jump at 16-41⁄4 in the county meet last week. Rorer was 13⁄4 inches behind Jacobs’ Olivia Mayer in the long jump. She has not been able to run sprints so far in the outdoor season. “I jump off my right, so it doesn’t bother me there,” Rorer said. “I don’t feel it when I’m running. I can feel it later. You just have to push through it. I’m a senior; I have to suck it up.” Rorer said the leg had held her back from doing explosive things, but she hoped to return to the Warriors’ 4x100 relay later. McHenry coach Jessica Schuett would love to have Laura D’Angelo, Ashley Conway, Lisa Holm and Rorer to put in the Fox Valley Conference Meet and at sectionals. “Usually, she doesn’t feel it running, but after she runs it gets inflamed,” Schuett said. “She’s not in pain, but she’ll hurt herself more if she runs. I know she wants to run.” The Warriors will hope Rorer is ready May 5 at the FVC Meet. Pushing the champ: Woodstock junior Donte Arnold almost had the triple jump title at the county meet last week at 43-71⁄4. In the finals, McHenry’s Carey Nolan, the defending champion, jumped 43-101⁄4 to retain his title. Arnold, a transfer from Lakes, also took second in the 300 hurdles. He qualified for the Class 2A State Meet in the 300 hurdles last year. “That 43-7 was my best jump this year,” Arnold said. “I’m pretty happy because if I’m competing with [Nolan] I know I’m getting better.” Wolves get record: Prairie Ridge seniors Sam Nirva and Jessica Ayers teamed with Amanda Weber and Brooke Basler to run a meet-record 50.88 in the 4x100 relay at the county meet. Nirva and Ayers were on the previous relay team that held the mark at 50.99. “We had it in mind,” Nirva said of the record. “We were thinking of first place. When I started and was catching up on the stagger, I thought it was going to be a good one.” This week’s top meets Woodstock Girls Invitational 4:30 p.m. Friday, Larry Dale Field Huntley, Harvard, Jacobs, Woodstock North and the host Blue Streaks are the local teams competing at the meet.
