


McHenry takes 2 from WoodstockWOODSTOCK – Junior pitchers Josh Arevalo (3-1) and Pat Maher (4-1) recorded back-to-back shutouts Thursday, combining for 17 strikeouts and no walks in McHenry’s Fox Valley Conference doubleheader sweep of Woodstock, 10-0 and 11-0. The Warriors (12-7, 11-2) scored in four innings of each five-inning game thanks in part to junior Jake Poulos, who drove in four runs on a home run, a double and a groundout for the day. The Blue Streaks fell to 4-9 overall 3-4 in the FVC. Dundee-Crown 9, Prairie Ridge 3: At Crystal Lake, John Hazelhurst struck out five Wolves batters as the Chargers (12-9, 9-4 FVC) topped Prairie Ridge (4-13, 1-7) in FVC play. Huntley 6, Grayslake Central 2: At Grayslake, Bryce Only went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs, Justin Gundlach was 3 for 4 with two RBIs and Tyler Davila was 2 for 3 and scored one run in the Red Raiders’ FVC win. Gundlach earned the win, going the distance and allowing six hits with two strikeouts for Huntley (15-1, 10-0). Jacobs 5, Johnsburg 0: At Johnsburg, Brett Kale had a two-run double in the fifth inning to lead Jacobs (5-10, 4-7) past the Skyhawks in FVC baseball. Zack Miller and Reed Kottke each recorded a hit for Johnsburg (3-12, 0-7). CL South 13, Woodstock North 5: At Woodstock, the Gators (11-4, 7-3) had 11 hits, supporting pitcher Robbie Lemke (5-2) for the FVC win. James Quick went 2 for 4, driving in two runs for Woodstock North (4-10, 0-9). Mundelein 10, CL Central 0 (5 inn): At Mundelein, John Nemcek went 2 for 3 with a double, but the Tigers (8-10) lost in non-conference action. Harvard 6, North Boone 5: At Harvard, the Hornets (6-13, 1-3) rallied in the seventh inning for the BNC East Division win behind Brian Koester’s double and home run. Senior T.J. Stephens (2-2) picked up the win. Marian Central 10, St. Edward 0 (5 inn.): At Elgin, Mitch Ennis and Lincoln Herendeen each had three RBIs and scored a run and Herendeen hit a two-run homer for the Hurricanes (8-3, 4-2) in their Suburban Christian Conference win. Ian Maxiener picked up his third win of the season for Marian, giving up two hits and striking out five in five innings. WATER POLO McHenry 12, Glenbrook South 2: At McHenry, Tim Briscoe, Jordan Kuchenmeister and Dylan Clohessy each scored three goals for the Warriors. Kyle Braun scored twice and Lucas Matthys, Will Porter and Igor Gryniv each scored once for McHenry (26-4). TRACK Richmond-Burton Rocket Relays: At Richmond, the Rockets won four events and finished second with 94 points at their own seven-team invite. Marengo was third with 80 points, Hampshire was sixth (49) and Marian finished seventh (29). Genoa-Kingston (122) won the meet. R-B’s Austin Gunderson, Ryne Pearson and Griffin Williams won the long jump relay (51-4), and Michael Bland, D.J. Wolfram, Aaron Spivey and Brandon Boles led the Rockets to a win in the 3,200-meter relay (8:53.32). James Kaht joined Bland, Wolfram and Spivey on the winning distance medley relay team (11:37.09) and Pearson, Gunderson, Jake Rymarz and Lance Rammage won the 800-meter relay. Marian Central’s Eric Skaleski, Ryan Radecki, Brett Olson and Nake Kiekena won the 1600-meter relay (3:42.07).
