Sheedlo sets R-B record; Rockets win track meet

PALMYRA, Wis. – Richmond-Burton traveled over the border and came back a winner, racking up 143 points to top 10 other teams at the Palmyra-Eagle girls track invitational Saturday.

The Rockets had four individual and three relay wins on the day.

Talia Sheedlo set a school record with a time of 15.8 seconds to win the 100-meter hurdles for the Rockets. Sheedlo also placed third in 300 hurdles behind R-B’s Jordan Eisenberg, who took first in 51.40.

Kara Russell (2:32.10) and April Wanagas (2:37.20) swept the top two spots for R-B in the 800. Also for the Rockets, Elizabeth Kaht won the pole vault (9-6).

R-B just missed a sweep of the relay events, winning the 4x200 (1:57.60), 4x400 (4:30.80) and 4x800 (10:51.90) but finished third in the 4x100.

Waukesha (Wis.) Northstar Classic: Lexi Dahl won the pole vault (10 feet) and Marianne Collard won the 3,200 (11:26.18) for Crystal Lake South to pace the Gators to a first-place finish with 95 points at the 16-team invitational.

Also for South, Molly Allred, Collard, Erica Boorom and Gaby Garay won the 4x800 relay (10:14.78).

SOFTBALL

CL Central 3, Woodstock North 2: At Crystal Lake, the Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, added one in the fourth and held on for the Fox Valley Conference Fox Division win. Sara McConnell picked up the win and Taylor Ward earned the save. Ward and Brittany York each drove in a run for the Tigers (12-4, 6-1).

Nat Bruchsaler was 2 for 3 with a run scored, and Alyx Vogle had an RBI for the Thunder (4-11, 2-7).

CL South 3, Dundee-Crown 2: At Carpentersville, Hannah Mahoney delivered a 14-strikeout complete game, picking up the FVC Valley win for South (10-6, 3-4).

Sophomore Amanda Eissler hit two doubles for the Chargers (2-13, 1-8).

Jacobs 23, Woodstock 0 (5 inn.): At Algonquin, freshman Alyssa Lach went 3 for 5 and Maggie Hanson went 2 for 5 with a home run to lead Jacobs (9-8, 5-3 FVC Valley) to an FVC win.

Rachel Parisek had a hit for Woodstock (0-13, 0-8 FVC Fox).

Huntley 4-19, Guilford 3-6: At Huntley, Taylor Larson (7-7) got the win in Game 1, and Ashley Laxner (1-1) won Game 2 in the Red Raiders’ sweep of a doubleheader against the Vikings.

Brittany Koss was 3 for 3 in the first game with Kelsey Hagen and Tara Lycos picking up two hits each. In Game 2, Randi Peterson and Lycos each drove in three runs, and Katheryn Hochett was 2 for 4 with two RBIs for Huntley (9-9, 4-2).

Oregon 11-13, Richmond-Burton 0-0: At Richmond, Oregon pitcher Jordan Melville silenced the Rockets (4-8, 1-3) for a shutout sweep in Big Northern Conference East Division action, despite two hits from R-B’s Amanda Stanton.

SOCCER

CL South 7, CL Central 0: At Crystal Lake, the Gators (12-7-2, 7-2) lit up the scoreboard with two goals each from Christina Szocka and Kali Loescher as South shut out the Tigers (1-11, 0-9) in FVC action.

Hoffman Estates 2, Dundee-Crown 0: At Hoffman Estates, Ali Bakewell made three saves for the Chargers (6-12-1), but D-C lost in non-conference action.

Prairie Ridge Invitational: At Crystal Lake, the host Wolves tied Harlem, 1-1, to finish their tournament with a 1-0-1 record. Kelly Pringle scored Prairie Ridge’s lone goal, assisted by Kelsey Bear.

Whitney Whitehouse logged three saves for the Wolves.

Jacobs 3, Johnsburg 2 (OT): At Johnsburg, Cassidy Sherman scored three goals, including the winner in overtime in the 93rd minute on a penalty kick, in an FVC win for the Golden Eagles (15-5, 5-1).

Stillman Valley 3, Harvard 1: At Harvard, an unassisted first-half goal by Shannon Ditsch wasn’t enough as Stillman Valley scored two second-half goals to get past Harvard (8-7-1, 2-3 BNC) in BNC play.
