


Hampshire, Marengo finish 2nd, 3rd in BNC Track MeetSTILLMAN VALLEY – Combining for five first-place individual finishes, Hampshire (105 points) and Marengo (103) took the second and third team spots in the Big Northern Conference Girls Track Meet on Thursday. Burlington Central (130) won the meet. Richmond-Burton (31.5) finished sixth, and Harvard (3.0) was 11th. Hampshire junior Cassie Kruse took home top honors in two events, winning the 800-meter run (2:21.61) and the 1,600 (5:16.46). Kruse also anchored the Hampshire 4x800 meter relay team that took first (9:53.65). Marengo sophomore Katie Adams (11:30.18) and freshman Allie Sprague (11:37.98) finished first and second for the Indians in the 3,200 meter run, supplementing first place wins from senior Shawney Damisch in the high jump (5 feet 2 inches) and junior Allison Rogutich in the triple jump (35-71⁄2). Richmond-Burton junior Talia Sheedlo (33-1) finished third in the triple jump, and sophomore Roxanne Kelly (32-41⁄2) was fourth. SOFTBALL Johnsburg 7, Grayslake Central 5: At Johnsburg, the Skyhawks (6-8, 6-5 FVC) capitalized on eight Rams errors with doubles from Mary Chamberlain, Katie Weingart and Bre Baer in a Fox Valley Conference win. Claire Brennan hit her fifth home run of the season for Grayslake Central (8-13, 4-8). Huntley 6, McHenry 1: At McHenry, Brittany Koss and Ashley Laxner tripled for the Red Raiders to support pitcher Taylor Larson (9-8) in an FVC Valley Division win for Huntley (11-10, 6-3 FVC). Brenda Botzenhardt went 3 for 3 with a home run for the Warriors (5-9, 3-7). Prairie Ridge 13, Woodstock 0 (5 inn.): At Woodstock, Emily Doomis drove in four runs in an FVC Fox win for the Wolves (13-5, 8-0 FVC). Also for Prairie Ridge, Kirsten Stevens struck out nine and gave up one hit to earn the win. Janelle Krueger doubled for the Blue Streaks (0-16, 0-11). Grayslake North 4, Dundee-Crown 1: At Grayslake, Tiffany Rawlinson drove in a run for the Chargers (2-17) in an FVC crossover loss against the Knights (9-4). Hampshire 8, Harvard 7: At Hampshire, Sam Hereley and Randi Blazier both went 3 for 4 for the Hornets (12-6, 4-3 BNC), but Hampshire (5-14, 2-3) rallied for the game-winning run in the seventh inning behind pitcher Jen Hurst. SOCCER Cary-Grove 6, Woodstock 0: At Cary, Korey Kronforst and Alli Budreck both scored twice in an FVC win for the Trojans (11-7-1, 8-3 FVC). Woodstock fell to 3-13, 0-10 in the FVC. CL South 3, Prairie Ridge 1: At Crystal Lake South, Christina Szocka scored two goals in an FVC win for the Gators (14-7-2, 9-2 FVC). Haleigh Danek scored a second half goal for the Wolves (5-8-1, 5-4 FVC). CL Central 3, Woodstock North 0: At Crystal Lake, the Tigers (3-10, 2-9 FVC) scored two first-half goals in an FVC win. Mel Vrasich made two saves and Alli Kuk made four in goal for the Thunder (6-11-1, 2-8). Huntley 3, Dundee-Crown 0: At Huntley, Aimee Wronski scored a first-half goal and followed it up with two in the second to get the hat trick for the Red Raiders (14-1-1, 9-0 FVC), who remain undefeated in conference play. Ali Sanders made nine saves in goal for the Chargers (6-14-1, 5-6). Grayslake North 3, Johnsburg 0: At Johnsburg, Katie Lahera had a goal and an assist for the Knights (7-7, 3-4 FVC) in an FVC win against the Skyhawks (2-15, 1-10). Marengo 2, Hampshire 1: At Hampshire, Alexa Torman scored and assisted for Marengo (11-4, 6-2 BNC) and Brittany Berrier made 21 saves in the Indians’ BNC win. Karla Bietinghoff tallied the lone goal for Hampshire (12-5-4, 6-3). Marian Central 4, Aurora Christian Catholic 0: At Aurora, Susan Thomas scored two goals for the Hurricanes who remain undefeated in Suburban Christian Conference play.
