


R-B’s Trapino no-hits North Boone, fans 18POPLAR GROVE – E.J. Trapino barely needed a defense behind him Tuesday. The Richmond-Burton junior struck out 18 in an 8-0, no-hit victory against North Boone in a Big Northern Conference East Division baseball game. Trapino has been on a strikeout binge, fanning 31 in his past two games. Rockets coach Mike Giese said Trapino pitched a phenomenal game, helped in part by the warm weather. “It was the first warm day that we really played in,” Giese said. “[Trapino] was really loose today and hit his spots. He just blew everything by them. He had them off-balance.” Matt Malecki hit two doubles and a triple for R-B (18-4 overall, 6-1 BNC East) and drove in two runs. Also for the Rockets, Jared Stanek went 3 for 4 with an RBI. Hampshire 6, Marengo 5: At Hampshire, Ryan Hoff gave up five runs on eight hits and struck out eight in a BNC East win for the Indians (3-22, 1-6). Dan Guerrero went 3 for 3 with two RBIs for the WhipPurs (12-9, 5-2). Jacobs 2, Woodstock 1: At Woodstock, Brett Kale pitched a complete game, allowing one run and striking out nine for Jacobs in the Fox Valley Conference win. Nate Andersen (2 for 4) and Henry Gigeous (1 for 2) each drove in a run for the Golden Eagles (10-13, 8-8 FVC Valley). Josh Turner pitched a complete game with three strikeouts for the Blue Streaks (6-17, 4-12 FVC Fox). CL Central 11, Prairie Ridge 10: At Crystal Lake, Ryan Mannix went 3 for 4 with two RBIs, Andy Gertonson went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, and Stuart Streip struck out three for the Tigers (9-17 5-10) in an FVC Fox victory against the Wolves (8-18, 6-10). Woodstock North 13, Johnsburg 2: At Johnsburg, James Quick pitched four innings, struck out three and walked one for Woodstock North (5-15, 1-14) in its first FVC Fox victory in school history. Nate Meyer went 3 for 3 and hit a double, and Josh Neely (2 for 4) added a triple for the Thunder, who tallied 11 hits in the game. Mike Pritts pitched two innings, had one strikeout and one walk, and Mike Molway and Kevin Ridout both doubled for the Skyhawks (5-17, 2-11). Kirkland Hiawatha 9, Alden-Hebron 7: At Hebron, Tim Talbert had three RBIs for the Giants (13-10) in a non-conference loss. TENNIS Dundee-Crown 7, Woodstock 0: At Carpentersville, Kevin Brandstatter defeated Woodstock’s Jonny Fabian, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 1 singles to lead the Chargers (8-12, 5-7) to the FVC win. Spirit of the Northwest Tournament: At Huntley, Chris Goulet defeated Tyler VanVoorhees, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 1 singles to lead Johnsburg (8-7) to a 5-0 win against Marengo (0-10).
