CLC shuts out Johnsburg

JOHNSBURG – It was the Madie Edwards and Sarah Benhart show for Crystal Lake Central on Tuesday. Edwards scored all of the Tigers’ goals and Benhart assisted on them all in a 3-0 Fox Valley Conference Fox Division soccer win against Johnsburg.

Edwards has been the Tigers’ main offensive weapon recently and has scored eight of the team’s past nine goals. Her first goal against the Skyhawks came with less than five minutes remaining in the first half.

“It took a while to get going,” Tigers’ coach Mike McCaulou said. “We started winning more balls in the second half. Our energy was harder. [Johnsburg was] doing everything they could to get it out of their area.”

The win continued Central’s streak of playing well in May. The Tigers are 3-0 after a winless April. The Tigers (4-10 overall, 3-8 FVC Fox) won their first game March 15 and didn’t win another until May 3.

McCaulou said his starting 11 includes nine underclassmen.
