Harvard wins softball regional

DURAND – The Harvard softball team won its second consecutive regional title with a 4-3 win against Durand-Pecatonica in the IHSA Class 2A Regional final Friday.

Randi Blazier scored the winning run for the Hornets (15-10) in the bottom of the seventh with two outs on a passed ball with Michaela Binz at the plate.

Taylor Streit scored a run and drove in another, Stephanie Stephens went 2 for 3, and Maty Brincks picked up the win for Harvard, striking out four over seven innings.

Jacobs 7, Johnsburg 1: At Algonquin, Alyssa Lach went 2 for 3 with a home run to lead the Golden Eagles past the Skyhawks in Fox Valley Conference crossover play. Marissa Lombardo struck out six to get the win for Jacobs (19-11). Mary Kate Wright went 2 for 3 with a double for Johnsburg (9-14).

Cary-Grove 3, Grayslake North 0: At Cary, Emma Gaulke went 2 for 3 with a double with an RBI and Lisa Semro also drove in a run for the Trojans (26-1) in a FVC crossover win.

Huntley 5, Grayslake Central 0: At Huntley, Taylor Larson picked up her 12th win of the season with a three-hit shutout for the Red Raiders in their FVC crossover win. Brittany Koss homered for Huntley (15-16).

McHenry 10, Woodstock 0 (5 inn.): At McHenry, Sara Wegner picked up the win for the Warriiors (15-16), allowing two hits over five innings, in their FVC crossover win against the Blue Streaks (2-25).

Elk Grove 3, Marengo 2: At Elk Grove, Chloe Montgomery went 2 for 3 with an RBI, and Lauren Roudabush went 3 for 4 for the Indians (24-8) in their non-conference loss.


BOYS TRACK

Class 1A Rockford Christian Sectional: At Rockford, Harvard qualified three for the state meet and finished fourth as a team.

Jorge Pichardo won the 3,200-meter run, finishing in 10:12.69, Matt Smith qualifed with a second-place finish in the long jump, and Buddy Lasker qualifed in shot put.

Class 3A Rockford Guilford Sectional: At Rockford, Cary-Grove qualified for state in five events, with McHenry, Crystal Lake South and Dundee-Crown all qualifying in four.

C-G’s Josh Freeman took second in the shot put and third in the discus, and Anthony Golowach won the 400-meter dash.

McHenry’s Carey Nolan won the 200, and Jacobs’ Joey Cieniewicz won the 800.

Prairie Ridge qualifed for three events, and Huntley and Jacobs each qualifed for two.

BASEBALL

McHenry 5, Lake Zurich 3: At Lake Zurich, Pat Murphy had a two-run double, and Alex Obenauf drove in another run for the Warriors (24-9) in their non-conference win.

Burlington Central 6, Dundee-Crown 3: At Burlington, Jake Romano went 3 for 4 with a solo home run for the Chargers (21-13) in a non-conference loss.

Grayslake North 15, Woodstock 7: At Woodstock, Ryan Leonard went 3 for 4 with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs scored, and Mike Carsello added two runs scored on two hits for the Blue Streaks (7-24, 5-19 FVC Fox) in their FVC Fox Division loss.

Grayslake Central 11, Huntley 7: At Huntley, Colin Lyman went 3 for 4 with a double, a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored for the Red Raiders (21-9, 16-7 FVC Valley) in their FVC loss. Nick Corpolongo and Bryce Only each drove in two runs for Huntley.

Hampshire 10, Sandwich 9: At Sandwich, Danny Grzywa went 3 for 5 with two RBIs and two runs scored for the Whip-Purs (14-13) in their non-conference win.

Jacobs 4, Johnsburg 1: At Algonquin, Henry Gigeous picked up his fifth win of the season, allowing one hit over five innings and striking out eight for the Golden Eagles (13-18, 11-13 FVC Valley) in a FVC crossover win against the Skyhawks (8-22, 5-17 FVC Fox).

Marian Central 3, CL South 2 (8 inn.): At Crystal Lake, Lincoln Herendeen drove in the winning run for Marian (17-9) in a non-conference win. Chris Hauser doubled for South (18-11).
