


Hernandez pitches Whips into baseball regional finalHAMPSHIRE – Third-seeded Hampshire’s Shane Hernandez threw a three-hit shutout to lead the Whip-Purs to a 2-0 victory against second-seeded Burlington Central on Friday in an IHSA Class 3A Hampshire Regional semifinal. Hampshire will face top-seeded Marmion in the championship game at 1 p.m. Saturday. BOYS TENNIS IHSA State Tournament: The second day of the state tournament didn’t last long for local players, all of whom were eliminated after one match in consolation-bracket play Friday at various sites in the northwest suburbs. In singles, Cary-Grove’s Chris Federighi lost to Springfield’s Patrick Gaffigan, 6-3, 6-1, in the fourth round, and Crystal Lake South’s Cam Laktash lost to Grayslake North’s Nate Campanile, 6-4, 6-4, in the third round. In doubles, Marian Central’s Conor Moon and Aaron Waters lost to Glenbrook South’s Konrad Ryba and Michael Levin, 6-3, 6-4, in the fourth round.
