Northwest Herald girls soccer All-Area Team

FIRST TEAM

Forwards

Korey Kronforst, Cary-Grove, jr.

Despite missing a few games early in the season, Kronforst remained one of the area’s most dangerous forwards. If teams lost track of her for a moment, Kronforst routinely capitalized. Her 18 goals led the Trojans for a third season. Kronforst was an All-Fox Valley Conference pick and an Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Associaion All-Sectional selection.

Kali Loescher, Crystal Lake South, sr.

Loescher helped South go from a 1-4 start to a regional title and a berth in the Class 3A sectional final. Her goal in overtime of the sectional semifinal against Hononegah gave the Gators their second sectional final appearance in program history. Loescher’s 22 goals and 15 assists were the result of tireless work, and South coach Brian Allen was particularly impressed with Loescher’s ability to defend during high-pressure situations. Loescher was an All-FVC pick and named to the IHSSCA’s All-Sectional team.

Alexa Torman, Marengo, sr.

Torman’s speed and ability to shake defenders caused trouble for most of the Indians’ opponents, particularly in the Big Northern Conference East Division. She scored in all but one BNC East win to help Marengo to its best-ever season. Torman scored 29 goals and added seven assists. She was an All-BNC East pick and named to the IHSSCA’s All-Sectional team.

Aimee Wronski, Huntley, sr.

Wronski, the Northwest Herald Girls Soccer Player of the Year for a second consecutive season, was the area’s only player to receive All-State honors from the IHSSCA for her area-best 35 goals and eight assists. Wronski also was an All-FVC pick.

Midfielders

Bre Burry, Huntley sr.

The Raiders’ center midfielder distributed for one of the area’s most dangerous offenses. She was the anchor in the Raiders’ midfield and one of the reasons they have been so successful over the past three years. Burry scored four goals and added 14 assists this season, and Huntley coach Kris Grabner saw her as a team leader and great competitor. Burry was named to the All-FVC team and was an IHSSCA All-Sectional pick.

Laura LeFevour, Marian Central, jr.

LeFevour made things tricky for the Hurricanes’ opponents in the midfield, where she controlled possessions and beat defenders with her incredible speed. She scored 17 goals and added a remarkable 35 assists for the Hurricanes to help them finish as the IHSA Class 2A state runner-up. LeFevour was an IHSSCA All-Sectional selection and an All-Suburban Christian Conference pick.

Cassidy Sherman, Jacobs, jr.

Sherman made sure the Golden Eagles won just about every ball in the midfield. Every opponent had to go through her and she was a big reason for the Eagles’ 20-7 record this season. Sherman’s 14 goals and 10 assists led Jacobs, and her play dictated the pace of most matches. Sherman was an All-FVC pick and named to the IHSSCA’s All-Sectional team.

Robin Wenzel, Marian Central, so.

Wenzel really was a utility player for the Hurricanes and is a natural defender, but spent her first season playing offense. She played forward, dropped back to midfield, occasionally switching places with LeFevour, and also played defense sporadically, including during the Class 2A state tournament. Wenzel scored 23 goals and added 15 assists. She was an All-SCC pick.

Defenders

Tess Bottorff, Marian Central, sr.

Bottorff was the Hurricanes’ anchor all season and a big reason for their run to the state finals. She led a defense that surrendered six goals in 16 games against Class 2A competition and just two in seven postseason matches. Bottorff was given consideration for the Northwest Herald Girls Soccer Player of the Year honor. She will continue her soccer career at Illinois Wesleyan next year and was an IHSSCA All-Sectional selection as well as being named to the All-SCC team.

Rachel Chapuis, Huntley, sr.

Chapuis was the heart and soul of a Raiders defense that allowed only six goals in 21 matches this season and never more than one in a match. Chapuis was aggressive in the back and took opposing forwards completely out of rhythm. She worked particularly hard to fill a defensive void when defender Alyse Williams was sidelined with a midseason knee injury. Chapuis was an All-FVC pick and received an honorable mention All-Sectional nod from the IHSSCA.

Goalkeeper

Elizabeth Quinn, Crystal Lake South

Quinn was the hero twice during the Gators’ postseason run. She saved what would have been the tying penalty kick against Prairie Ridge to help South win its first regional title in seven years, and she made 11 saves to keep Hononegah scoreless in the sectional semifinal. Quinn finished her senior year with 13 shutouts, 130 saves, a 0.86 goals against average and a 0.844 save percentage. Quinn was an All-FVC pick and received an honorable mention All-Sectional nod from the IHSSCA.
