


Eagles earn volleyball winBARTLETT– The Jacobs volleyball team won its first match of the season Tuesday, defeating Bartlett, 25-18, 25-19. Maris Smith posted six kills, eight digs and three aces for the Golden Eagles (1-0). Rockford Christian 2, Harvard 0: At Rockford, the Hornets (0-2) lost, 25-18, 25-13, in straight sets in non-conference play. Wauconda 2, Marengo 0: At Marengo, the Indians (0-2) lost, 25-18, 25-13, in non-conference play. CROSS COUNTRY Elgin City Classic: At Elgin, Natalie Himmel finished 19th (21:09) to help Dundee-Crown place fourth (128) at the eight-team invitational. Jade Franz (23rd, 21:23) and Rebecca Libricz (27th,21:44) also finished in the top 30 for the Chargers. Sycamore Invite: At Afton Forest Preserve in Sycamore, Woodstock finished sixth, led by Sarah Semmen’s 19th-place finish in 20:25 and Lacey Heaver’s 23rd-place finish in 20:39. Kelsey Schrader of DeKalb won the event in 18:48 and St. Francis won as a team. TENNIS Jacobs 6, Grayslake North 1: At Algonquin, Alina Zabolotico and Emily Alessio won their singles matches in straight sets, and the Golden Eagles swept all four doubles matches en route to the Fox Valley Conference crossover victory. Kelly Poggensee-Wei claimed the lone win for the Knights with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at No. 1 singles. CL South 7, Dundee-Crown 0: At Crystal Lake, Marisa Thome, Julia Thome and Kim Goodwin did not lose a game in their victories at singles for the Gators. Kelsey Laktash and Rachel Siemon also swept their match at No. 1 doubles in South’s FVC Valley Division win. Belvidere North 5, Marengo 2: At Marengo, Christie Pleva came through with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles for the Indians, but Marengo (4-4) lost the match. Carmel 3, Marian Central 2: At Mundelein, Marian Central’s Constance Melchionna and Alyssa Melchionna survived a hard-fought match to pick up a 7-6, 7-9, 10-7 victory in a non-conference loss. CL Central 6, Huntley 1: At Crystal Lake, No. 1 singles player Jenna Wallace and No. 2 doubles team Tara Ortner and Becca Ross each swept their matches as the Tigers beat the Red Raiders. Taylor Lindskoog picked up Huntley’s lone win at No. 3 singles in the FVC crossover loss. Prairie Ridge 5, McHenry 2: At Prairie Ridge, the Wolves took all four doubles matches on the way to the FVC crossover win. Hannah Gummerson survived a tough match (6-3, 7-6 (2)) at No. 1 singles to give the Wolves a win in singles play. Cary-Grove 7, Woodstock North 0: At Cary-Grove, Kaitlin Kownick and Bridget Dorsey each won, 6-0, 6-1, in their No. 2 and No. 3 singles matches for the Trojans (2-1, 1-0 FVC Fox) in a FVC crossover win. GOLF Somonauk 180, Burlington Central 191, Hampshire 242: At Sycamore Golf Club, Connie Ellett took co-medalist honors for the Whip-Purs with a 1-over-par 36 in a triangular loss for Hampshire (1-6). CL Central 181, Marengo 225: At Marengo Ridge, Lexi Markins took medalist honors for the Tigers with a 3-over 39 on the front nine.
