Hampshire’s Ellett fires 35 to win tourney

ELGIN – Connie Ellett shot an even-par 35 to take medalist honors for the Hampshire girls golf team Monday at the South Elgin Invitational at Elgin Country Club.

Ellett finished four strokes ahead of the field, as the Whip-Purs finished sixth as a team with 235 strokes in the seven-team tournament.

Dundee-Crown finished in fifth place at 209 with Lauren Wendt and Sara Tompkins each shooting a 50 for the Chargers.

St. Charles North won the event with 178 strokes.

Rockford Lutheran 213, Marengo 228: At Sandy Hollow in Rockford, Megan Reddersdorf shot a 53 to lead the Indians, and Danielle Tucker added a 56 in a Big Northern Conference loss.

Prairie Ridge 174, Huntley 215: At Prairie Isle in Prairie Grove, Robin Manarik shot a 3-over 40 for the Wolves in an FVC win.

Gabby Young shot a 51 to lead the Red Raiders.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Marian Central 2, Montini 0: At Lombard, the Hurricanes won their Suburban Christian Conference Blue Division match, 25-15, 25-17, behind Emma Hussey’s nine-kill, five-ace performance.

Abby Gilleland added 19 assists and six digs for Marian (9-4, 4-1 SCC Blue).


GIRLS TENNIS

Cary-Grove 5, Marengo 2: At Cary, Kaitlin Kownick and Bridget Dorsey won the singles matches for the Trojans (13-4), with Kownick taking the No. 1 match, 6-0, 6-2, and Dorsey winning the No. 2 match, 7-5, 6-3, in the non-conference win.

Sage Torman and Kristen Martin won, 6-2, 1-6, 6-2, in their No. 2 doubles match for the Indians.

Marian Central 7, Lakes 0: At Woodstock, Amanda Salvi and Caroline Frame won their No. 2 doubles match, 6-0, 6-0, in the Hurricanes’ non-conference win.

Belvidere 6, Woodstock North 1: At Belvidere, Sierra Meiners won her No. 1 singles match, 7-5, 7-5, in a non-conference loss for the Thunder.


BOYS GOLF

Mendota 169, Harvard 201: At Mendota Golf Club in Mendota, Jeremy Coffman shot an 11-over 46 to lead the Hornets in a non-conference loss.

Bartlett Invitational: At
Bartlett Hills in Bartlett, Scott Mallers led Dundee-Crown with a 9-over 80, as the Chargers took seventh place with 330 strokes.

Joe Aschacher, Anthony Cardelli and Will Stupar added 84s for D-C.

St. Charles North won with 305 strokes.

Marian Central 155, Wheaton Academy 167: At Crystal Woods in Woodstock, Noah Radwanski shot a 1-over 37 to lead the Hurricanes to a Suburban Christian Conference win.


BOYS SOCCER

Hampshire 2, Marian Central 1: At Woodstock, Jose Hernandez and Robert Lucio each scored first-half goals for the Whip-Purs (3-7) in their non-conference win.

Austin Sierakowski scored for the Hurricanes (3-6-3) on a Trevor Diedrich assist.

Marengo 2, Richmond-Burton 2: At Richmond, Nick Radcliff scored two second-half goals on assists from Luis Romero to earn a Big Northern Conference East Division tie for the Indians (5-5-4, 1-1-4 BNC East).

Zack Cemail scored a first-half goal for the Rockets (1-5-4, 0-1-3 BNC East). Brett Snyder added a goal in the second half on an assist from Gustavo Campos.

Henry Traylor made 17 saves for R-B, and Sergio Orozco made nine saves for Marengo.
