Happ’s low round of year lifts Woodstock

HARVARD – Only two strokes separated Woodstock’s top four golfers in a 163-167 non-conference victory against Marian Central on Wednesday at Plum Tree National.

The Blue Streaks’ Alex Ferguson and Prescott Happ shot 4-over-par 40s to share medalist honors with two Marian golfers. Zakk Mueller had a 41, and Augie Buettner shot a 42 for Woodstock.

Streaks coach J.C. Wise said Happ played a great round.

“We’re thrilled with Prescott Happ to come in with a 40,” Wise said. “That’s his best round this year.”

Wise said he knew the match was close and was nervous waiting to hear his team’s scores.

“It was an exciting match just waiting for kids to come in,” Wise said.

Luke Waggoner and Noah Radwanski also shot 40s for the Hurricanes to share medalist honors. Joe Grady shot a 43 and Augie Buettner had a 44 for Marian.

Genoa-Kingston 175, Richmond-Burton 196: At The Oak Club in Genoa, Jordan Hahn took medalist honors with a 6-over 41 for the Rockets (8-7 overall, 6-5 Big Northern Conference East Division) in a BNC East loss.

GIRLS GOLF

Huntley 218, Hampshire 223: At Huntley, Danielle Smith and Lauren Gorecki shot 53s for the Red Raiders (4-4, 4-3 FVC) in an FVC win.

Connie Ellett shot an even-par 36 for the Whip-Purs.

Johnsburg 223, Jacobs 233: At Randall Oaks in West Dundee, Andrea Lindal shot a 52 to lead the Skyhawks (5-5, 3-4 FVC) to an FVC win.

Tori Tamburrino shot a 51 to take medalist honors for the Golden Eagles.

Prairie Ridge 166, CL Central 171: At Prairie Isle in Prairie Grove, Robin Manarik shot a 2-over 39 to lead the Wolves (11-0, 7-0 FVC) to an FVC win.

Lexi Harkins shot an even-par 37 for the Tigers.

McHenry 197, Dundee-Crown 228: At Bonnie Dundee in Carpentersville, Kaylee Ross shot an 8-over 43 for the Warriors in an FVC win.

Lauren Wendt led the Chargers with a 51.

GIRLS SWIMMING

CL Central 102, Dundee-Crown 64: At Carpentersville, Courtney Lefevre won the 200-meter freestyle (2:27.67) for the Tigers in an FVC win.

Emily Champa won the 100 freestyle (1:05.33) for D-C.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Byron Invitational: Ross Seaton placed 23rd (16:38.86) to lead Hampshire at the eight-team invitational. Also for the Whip-Purs, Max Oury placed 30th (17:10.55).

Hampshire finished seventh and DeKalb took first.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Byron Invitational: Hampshire’s Cassie Kruse won the nine-team event, and teammate Elizabeth Pagan was 25th (20:19.33).

Hampshire took sixth, and DeKalb was first.
