Hughes and Bayer went 5-0 on the week, including a strong performance at the Cary-Grove Invitational. C-G’s top doubles team went 3-0 at the invitational, including wins against a tough Bartlett team.

Noteworthy

It’s wet out there: No one has complained about the weather so far this season, but the start of this week indicates that the tide might be turning.

Matches were rained out Tuesday, and rain is in the forecast through Thursday.

On Saturday, C-G managed to get its invitational played between rain showers. Play didn’t start until after 10 a.m. Other than a short break around 1 p.m. for rain, the meet was played uninterrupted.

Crystal Lake Central was rained out Saturday at its invitational. Also rained out were Huntley, Johnsburg and Dundee-Crown at the Lakes Invitational.

The rainouts could make it difficult to finish Fox Valley Conference divisional play before the FVC Tournament, which is scheduled to begin Oct. 6.

FVC standings: Crystal Lake Central (4-0) and Crystal Lake South (5-0) are undefeated this year and lead the FVC Valley and Fox divisions, respectively.

Jacobs (3-1) and Cary-Grove (4-1) are vying for second place in the FVC Valley.

Grayslake Central (5-1) leads the FVC Fox in points, but the Tigers still have two matches left. Other than the Tigers and Rams, no one in the Fox has a winning record. This week’s top meet
